The page on meta says there is a meeting this evening, but there doesn't seem to be an agenda yet, is that meeting happening? If so, could I add something to the agenda? I'm curious as to how the accounts are currently being managed (I know no receipts or payments have been processed yet, but they will be soon so a system needs to be in place). Is the plan to just have a simple spreadsheet or is some proper accounting software being used? I suggest the board consider using proper software from the start since it will almost certainly be required once we get to a decent size and it will be easier to implement it now than transferring everything across at a later date. There are FOSS options available, although I don't know if anything are any good. Something which includes features for UK charities would be good, since you could get it to do all the complicated gift aid stuff (I'm assuming such software exists, there are plenty of charities that could use it).
Yes, there is a meeting, at 8.30pm UT on IRC.
(I won't comment on the rest, as that's best left for Tom / the whole board to answer.)

Yeah I planned to investigate a few pieces of accounting software over the break. Currently the "accounts" are just a sub-folder of my inbox (which is perfectly manageable since there's not a lot too them at the moment).

As a registered company, you will need to produce actual account on a accruals basis, rather than just keeping receipts, etc. You can do all that once a year if you like (I think), but it's easier to keep it all in order as you go along. I think some investigation is, indeed, called for - good luck!
Our preliminary accounting year is the calendar year, so the first accounts will be due at the end of 2009. So there's no rush. (Though in the mean time accurate record keeping is still of course essential.)
But like I said, I'll look at accounting software over the Christmas break.

We did a workshop today and one of the participants was a professor visiting from Manchester, and asked if we had local Wikipedians willing to come to the University and do a workshop on how to contribute to and edit Wikipedia. She has my card and is going to send me an email as to specifics, but I wanted to ask around sooner rather than later to find out who might be available and willing to do this.
Thanks.

I'm interested.
I'm currently at the University of Manchester, and would be interested in helping with this.

I'm going to guess that everyone is okay with my providing her with your names and contact information. Thanks!

Yes, I would. But I am in London (I see there are also a few locals offering help).

Sorry I didn't catch this until now, but I'm happy to help, and for you to share my contact details.
Cheers, Cormac
