Dear Wikimedians,
The UK GLAM working group is now ready to find UK institutions willing to work with us by creating Wikipedian in Residence posts.
Our budget is limited, and must be used by January 31st, but there is enormous scope to be flexible. These could be day a week, limited term posts, based at home - or full time positions at an institution, like the British Library post. We will of course be pleased to see applications from institutions with whom we have already begun a positive relationship - but note that the applications have to be from the institutions, rather than individual volunteers.
Time is very short - our own fault - so we need bids, on the attached form, in by 5pm on November 15th to daria.cybulska@wikimedia.org.uk. She will be convening a panel to make the decisions that will be recommended to the board, hopefully at the meeting of November 17/18.
Please feel free to spread this around the various lists (and externally if you can).

It is better to defer spending to the next financial year than rush and spend money badly... If there are good applications that will be finished by the year end, then great, but the accounting year should not be a major consideration in the planning of activities...
It's a consideration, but not a major one. We can always not spend, of course, as you suggest, but we expect a good few applications!

********************************
Wikimedia UK has a budget of £15,000 to support Wikimedians in residence up until January 31st 2013. We expect to allocate funds in the 2013-14 budget to continue the work. For full details of what this means visit this page. We are now seeking institutions to make bids for these positions. This could be for full or part-time posts. They could be fully or part funded by the institutions or in exceptional circumstances WMUK would consider paying for the post.

I am a little confused. Is WMUK funding these "posts" or are the putative institutions paying?

It depends, really, on the institution and what they can offer the movement. It might be that a major institution is willing to half fund a post, or even fully fund one. A smaller institution may not have the funds for a post, but might have an excellent collection and a vibrant community... Does this help explain things?

Should I edit that page then?

Be bold - but make sure it's the draft activity plan you're editing :-)
