Hi all,
From recent-ish WMUK board minutes [1], it looks like WMUK has to move offices in the near future. I hope that this is being seen as an opportunity for WMUK, and the fact that the minutes indicate that other fellow-traveller organisations are being approached with regards options is very positive.
I'd like to ask: are options outside of London being considered?
Also, would WMUK be able to provide an update on the office move to this list, and perhaps ask for input on this move from list subscribers, please?
Thanks, Mike

I would assume that a small organisation would find it hard to move out of London. The BBC moved stuff to Salford: was that a success? Moving some BBC News programming from Broadcasting House to White City caused a stir!

True, the staff might be lost. Cf. 2011.

I believe it was, from the BBC's point of view.

Dear all
Yes, Wikimedia UK does have to move as the building we are currently based in has been sold by our current landlords (Ethical Property Ltd.) to new developers (who are likely to knock it down and start again, apparently!) We don't have a fixed date yet by which we will have to leave but the latest update from Ethical Property suggest it will be by next September - although if we find a suitable alternative before then we may move sooner.
Our Director of Finance and Operations, Davina Johnson, is leading on the move and I will ask her to put together an update for this list. We will be happy to receive your suggestions and input as we are currently in a research phase in terms of options, although the board will make the final decision. Davina works part time so will not be able to email you all immediately, hence this message to let you know the situation in broad terms.
Best Lucy

Also, what would the relocation costs be?
Savings on the rent, of course....

Ethical Properties provide office space for a variety of charities at Development House. After many years of occupation, best of luck with relocation: it's tough out there! :-)

Thanks Gordo :)

Not last time I checked, no. They're listed on a small ethical stock exchange and don't really have much press.
