Every room in college accommodation has an Ethernet point. However our IT guy is notoriously stroppy about letting external people on the network. However if the college authorities were onboard then I'm sure he could be overruled, as they will certainly understand that internet access is a base requirement for us.
We have discussed this in years past. The JANET networks seem to have some restrictions in their terms of service.
This is not a problem, really, since we can go up the food chain until we get the access required (e.g. full web access, chat, etc).
Could an alternative be to build a distinct network and then tunnel across JANET (live a VPN) to a remote server or two?
