Dear Natasha,
Thanks for the challenge. If you change the Google Spreadsheet to "guests can suggest edits" you might get the best crowd-sourced alt texts and captions (we're Wikimedians after all)!

Dear all
We are currently in the process of finalising the new Wikimedia UK website https://beta.wikimedia.org.uk/. One aspect where we really need your support is gathering and updating image captions and adding alternative text, especially to historic blog entries.
Jo has created a spreadsheet to identify what is required for each image. This will allow us to import captions and alt. text back into Wordpress, once the information is updated. In total there are 555 images with differing needs of information.
Here is a view only copy so you can get an idea of what input is needed:

Please email me if you can volunteer some of your time and expertise in the next few weeks, your support will really speed up the launch of the website.
Best wishes
Natasha
