Events on Feb 3 - Wikidata hackathon just announced

Hi all, We have 2 events on Feb 3 which you should all come to! We are hosting our first Wikidata hackathon at Newspeak House in East London, teaching people how to use Wikidata. It's been quite short notice to organise, but we are hoping it will be a launchpad for future hackathons. We'd like to create more Wikidata users in the UK, and see how we can use Wikidata within our partnerships, as well as encouraging people to upload new data sets. As far as I could see this story lacked any facts, not even one tangible example of attempted manipulation. I'd appreciate a link if I misunderstood the press coverage. It might be a good use of resources to just keep saying "please provide an example" before responding to what is probably itself fake news. Otherwise one keeps on focusing on flying teapots rather than stuff that matters for open knowledge. Vacancies at Wikimedia UK

Dear all We are currently advertising three vacancies at Wikimedia UK! Please consider applying for these yourself and/or circulating to your networks. As some of you know, I will be going on maternity leave towards the end of March and so the board is looking for an *interim Chief Executive*. The successful candidate will also take on some of Davina's responsibilities as Director of Finance and Operations, to cover a period of around 12 weeks' leave from April. The interim CEO role can be freelance or PAYE and will be part time. Other aspects of both mine and Davina's work will be taken on by other members of the team, in particular Daria Cybulska (who will be taking on specific aspects of my role) and Rich Matthews (who will be taking on more day-to-day financial control, management and reporting). Richard Nevell is taking a year's sabbatical to work at English Heritage as their Property Historian for castles. We are therefore looking for a new *Programme Co-ordinator* on a full time, fixed term basis to join the programmes team, based in London. We are also recruiting for a part time *Programme Co-ordinator in Scotland* to lead and develop the programme there. This is a new post and can be based anywhere in Scotland, with the postholder reporting in to Daria as Head of Programmes. New video on women artists

Hello Wikimedians, I'm currently testing out a new type of video which I hope will be more shareable online. I watch a lot of short history explainers, and a lot of these get a good number of views on YouTube. Neither our YouTube channel or the WMF one seem to get many hits for their videos, and I think that this is probably because people just don't search for keywords like Wikipedia, Wikimedia or other terms directly related to our projects. So what I tried to do is make a short history of how women artists have been viewed and treated throughout history that tries to cover as much ground as possible within a short time, with a short note at the end that explains what Wikimedia groups are doing to make Wikipedia better represent women online. Please share the video on social media if you feel like, and let me know if you have any feedback or if you have ideas for videos that could help people to become aware of our projects and get involved in them. Happy New Year - Wikipedia Day and other upcoming events

Hello Wikimedia UK community and Happy New Year. Firstly, we would like to encourage people to attend the London Meetup <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meetup/London/126> this weekend on Sunday 14th at Penderel's Oak pub in Holborn, which (almost) coincides with Wikipedia Day (the 17th anniversary of Wikipedia's 'birth' on 15th January). Wikimedia UK would like to celebrate this with our community and will be putting some money behind the bar for drinks. We would like to support the community as much as possible over the coming year, so please do let us know if there are Wikimedia activities you are working on that might benefit from the charity's involvement - or apply for a small project grant here <https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Project_grants>.
