Dear all
Wikimedia UK is excited to be partnering with the Global Systems Institute
<https://www.exeter.ac.uk/research/gsi/> at the University of Exeter to
recruit a Wikimedia Visiting Fellow for Climate and Environment.
More details about the post and how to apply are on our wiki here
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Wikimedia_Visiting_Fellow_at_Global_Systems_I…>.
The closing date is Sunday 3rd July.
This is a one year paid role, with the possibility of extension subject to
funding. It can be full or part time depending on the preference of the
successful candidate. Whilst the location is flexible, it will be important
to have a regular presence on site in Exeter. As such, we are focusing our
search on people based within the UK.
The role is based on the Wikimedian in Residence model, but in this case
the postholder will be employed by Wikimedia UK and seconded to GSI.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about science, and understands
the importance of public engagement with verifiable information about
climate and the environment. We would be very grateful if you could help
spread the word about this opportunity, and of course to apply yourself if
you meet the criteria.
Very best wishes

Dear all,
Apologies for crossposting, please disseminate to interested colleagues in your networks.
You are invited to join us on Friday 1 July 2022 (1.00 - 5.30pm) to take part in an event to promote Women's, LGBTQ+ and Black Histories on Wikipedia.
This free event is the culmination of a student project which has seen the diversifying of Wikipedia one page at a time, and now it's your turn!
“You and your students can dramatically affect the most popular and important reference work in the world” - Adrianne Wadewitz
Full training will be provided, and you don't need any prior experience to take part. This is a hybrid event, so you can join in person at the University of Edinburgh, or online.
Learn valuable new digital research skills (great CPD so ask your boss if you can attend!) which can then be applied by writing new articles of 50-100 words (or more) which we’ll publish by the end of the afternoon. These articles are drawn from a selection of tasks, encapsulating Scottish LGBTQ+ activists, professional women athletes, and Black campaigners, which will help address these under-represented histories.
Experience how fun, satisfying and tangibly impactful it is to contribute to the knowledge freely available online via the 8th most visited site in the UK, and 9th most visited globally (rankings by Alexa).
Eventbrite signup: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/recovering-histories-editing-wikipedia-informa…
We look forward to seeing you there!

Invitation for candidates for election to the Board

trustee standing for re-election. Any member who meets the criteria has the
right to stand, although we are particularly keen to hear from potential
candidates with experience in *accounting, external relations, charity
governance or the cultural sector*. Understanding and experience of the
Wikimedia community is also very beneficial, although not essential for
every board member.
If you wish to stand please follow the procedure here
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Board/Becoming_a_trustee> and submit your
application to the teller – Katie Crampton at tellers(a)wikimedia.org.uk – *no
later than* *Friday 24th June*. Please do feel free to get in touch if you
would like to arrange an information discussion about joining the board
with our Chief Executive, Lucy Crompton-Reid.
*Voting Papers*
All current members of the charity will be sent AGM papers by email,
including voting papers and proxy forms. We would encourage you to make use
of your voting rights, whether or not you are able to join the meeting
itself. Voting on the day will take place online via a secure system. If
you can’t attend and want to vote in advance of the meeting, the deadline
is Thursday 7th July at 11am. Full details of how to submit a proxy vote
will be included in your voting pack.
If you have changed your email in the last year or would prefer us to use a
different email address to contact you on, please do email
membership(a)wikimedia.org.uk with any updates by Friday 24th June. You can
also use this email to contact us if you haven't received your voting
papers by Monday 4th July.
*Annual Report and Accounts*
The draft annual report and accounts for 2021/22 are in the process of
being signed off by the board and the Auditors. All members will receive a
link to online versions of the Annual Report and Strategic Report prior to
the AGM.
We would love to see as many of our members, volunteers and other
stakeholders as possible online for our AGM on 9th July, so please sign up
below! [

Dear all
I'm delighted to introduce Esma Gjertson, who has recently joined the
Wikimedia UK staff team as our new Volunteer Coordinator. This is a fixed
term post for a year and Esma will be working two days a week, generally on
Thursdays and Fridays. Esma will be working on a range of things including
Wiki Loves Monuments, Train the Trainer and driving engagement with
volunteer grants, as well as seeding and developing new contributor
communities within underrepresented groups.
Esma has written a short blog post
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/2022/06/our-new-volunteer-coordinator-on-engaging-…>
to
introduce herself. Hopefully there will be opportunities for you to meet
her in person over the next few months, such as at the community activities
being planned for Wikimania in August. Esma brings great experience in
volunteer development and support, as well as in strategy and project
management, but is new to the Wikimedia movement. I hope you will join the
staff team in helping her to feel welcome within our community :)
With best wishes
Lucy
