Dear all
*Today* is the deadline to apply for membership of Wikimedia UK, or to
renew it, before the AGM on 10th July. You can do so here
<https://donate.wikimedia.org.uk/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=4>.
Please note that near the top of the membership page there is now a link to
set up your membership as a direct debit
<https://donate.wikimedia.org.uk/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=23>,
with options to pay your annual fee of £5 on 1st or 20th of the next (but
not every) month. Just to note, anyone doing this now will have their fee
go out in August but we will consider you to have set up or renewed your
membership from the point of submitting the form.
You are only able to vote on resolutions and trustee elections (by proxy in
advance or online on the day of the AGM itself) if you are a member. *It is
going to be a very competitive election for trustees this year, so make
sure you can vote if this is something you care about!*
The deadline for nominating yourself as a trustee is also midnight tonight,
and all candidate statements will go online on Monday.
With best wishes

Dear all
We are currently in the process of finalising the new Wikimedia UK website
<https://beta.wikimedia.org.uk/>. One aspect where we really need your
support is gathering and updating image captions and adding alternative
text, especially to historic blog entries.
Jo has created a spreadsheet to identify what is required for each image.
This will allow us to import captions and alt. text back into Wordpress,
once the information is updated. In total there are 555 images with
differing needs of information.
Here is a view only copy so you can get an idea of what input is needed:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Qo93OzIcButnKBW_YZ43cU7_WcqvhJVTWVK…
Please email me if you can volunteer some of your time and expertise in the
next few weeks, your support will really speed up the launch of the
website.
Best wishes

Hi everyone, with apologies for cross-posting
At the University of Edinburgh Library we're looking into how we can better engage our collections and services with the various Wikimedia projects. As part of this, we've put together a quick survey - if you have a spare 5-10 mins, please do complete and share with your networks.
Survey closes 9 July.

Hi all,
From 2021 to 2023, Wikimedia UK is running a project to train heritage
organisations, giving them important digital skills needed to engage with
the Wikimedia projects. Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, as
part of this project Wikimedia UK is looking for someone to take an active
role in delivery. This exciting role will involve work with cultural
heritage organisations, organising events, and evaluating and reporting on
outcomes. The successful candidate will help bring cultural heritage to a
global audience.
The full details, including the personal specification and how to apply are
on the Wikimedia UK website:
https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Digital_Skills_Wikimedian
The deadline for applications is midnight no Sunday 20th June, with
interviews planned for Tuesday 29th June.

for Wikimedia UK's 2021 AGM*
We have just sent out an email to Wikimedia UK members with formal
notification of our AGM on Saturday 10th July. If you believe that you are
a current member but haven't received the email, please get in touch with
katie.crampton(a)wikimedia.org.uk. Or if you know your membership has lapsed
but you would like to be able to vote in our trustee elections, please go
here
<https://donate.wikimedia.org.uk/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=4>
to renew your membership.
The draft agenda for the day is online here
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/2021_AGM>. The AGM itself will run from 2 -
3pm, however we have planned other activities from 11am. This includes a
talk with George Oates - the entrepreneur and designer who created the
Flickr Commons programme -as well as lightning talks from our volunteers
and partners and the presentation of our Wikimedian of the Year awards.
Invitation for candidates for election to the Board
There are three trustee vacancies at this year’s AGM, with one existing
trustee standing for re-election. Any member who meets the criteria has the
right to stand, although we are particularly keen to hear from potential
candidates with experience in external relations, charity law, governance
or the cultural sector. Understanding and experience of the Wikimedia
community is also very beneficial, although not essential for every board
member.
If you wish to stand please follow the procedure here
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Board/Becoming_a_trustee> and submit your
application to the teller – Katie Crampton at tellers(a)wikimedia.org.uk – no
later than Friday 25th June. Please do feel free to get in touch with me if
you would like to arrange an information discussion about joining the board
prior to submitting your nomination.
Voting Papers
All current members of the charity will be sent AGM papers by email,
including voting papers and proxy forms. We would encourage you to make use
of your membership voting rights whether or not you are able to come to the
meeting itself. Voting at the AGM will take place online, with proxy voting
available for those unable to attend on the day (the deadline for which is
48 hours before the start of the AGM).
If you have changed your email in the last year or would prefer us to use a
different email address to contact you on, please email
Katie.Crampton(a)wikimedia.org.uk by Friday 25th June - which is also the
deadline to apply for or renew your membership. You can also use this email
to contact us if you haven't received your voting papers by Monday 5th July.
Annual Report and Accounts
The annual report and accounts for 2020/21 are in the process of being
signed off and will be published online prior to the AGM. All members will
be sent a link to our online versions of the Annual Report and Strategic
Report once they are available.
Lightning Talks
Lightning Talks have proved a popular feature at past meetings and give
members the opportunity to hear about a wide range of projects and
activities related to Wikimedia and open knowledge more broadly. If you
would like to give a talk, or are interested in finding out more about what
this would involve, please email Karla at karla.marte(a)wikimedia.org.uk.
We would love to see as many of our members, volunteers and other
stakeholders as possible online for our AGM on 10th July, so please sign up
here
<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wikimedia-uks-2021-agm-tickets-157215827773?…>.
All best wishes

Dear all
Nominations for Wikimedia UK's board of trustees are now open. There are
three vacancies to be voted for at this year's AGM, with one existing
trustee standing for re-election.
If you wish to stand for the board, please email tellers(a)wikimedia.org.uk
with the information required, as outlined in the nominations procedure on
the wiki page becoming a trustee
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Board/Becoming_a_trustee>. This includes a
candidate statement which will be posted online prior to the elections, and
other information which won’t be shared publicly but which we need as part
of your nomination.
The deadline for nominations is Friday 25th June at 11.59pm.
You must be a member <https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Membership> of
Wikimedia UK - or have a membership application pending - in order to stand
for the board. You don't have to be a member to attend the AGM, but only
members are entitled to stand or to vote in the elections. It only takes a
minute to apply for membership and it costs just £5 a year.
Members can propose and second candidates for the board, but it is not a
requirement for candidates to have a proposer or a seconder, as
self-nomination is sufficient.
You can read more about becoming a trustee of Wikimedia UK here
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Board/Becoming_a_trustee>. If you would like
an informal conversation about standing for the board prior to submitting
your candidacy, please do get in touch with me directly so that we can set
up a phone or video call before the closing date.
If you haven't signed up for the Annual General Meeting, which will be held
online on Saturday 10th July, please do so on Eventbrite here

Dear all
I do hope that you can join us for Wikimedia UK’s Annual General Meeting
(AGM) on Saturday 10th July 2021. After a successful online AGM in July
2020 we’re holding it over Zoom again this year; although we are hoping to
be able to hold some in person events for volunteers and members later in
the year.
Sign up to attend
Anyone who wants to attend must register in advance, so please sign up on
the Eventbrite page here
<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wikimedia-uks-2021-agm-tickets-157215827773>
with your full name (not Wikimedia user name). We will only be sending the
Zoom link to registered attendees.
Programme
The day will start at 11am and close at 3pm - with a break for lunch
(and/or informal networking) - and feature our usual mix of keynote
speakers, talks, awards and of course the AGM itself. This will include
reports from the Chair, Treasurer and Chief Executive, and an opportunity
to ask the board and executive questions about the charity’s work.
If you would like to give a lightning talk, please contact Karla at
karla.marte(a)wikimedia.org.uk with a brief description of what you would
like to talk about.
Resolutions
The board is proposing ordinary resolutions which are on our wiki here
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/2021_Annual_General_Meeting/Resolutions>.
Members are also very welcome to propose resolutions for consideration at
the AGM. A resolution could be about a change to Wikimedia UK’s governing
document (our Articles of Association) or a change to our policies, or ways
of working. Any member who wishes to do so must let us know, with some
suggested text (although we can work on this with you), by Thursday 3rd June.
The text may either be sent by email to the charity at info(a)wikimedia.org.uk
or may be posted on the wiki
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/2021_Annual_General_Meeting/Resolutions>.
Trustee elections
This year we will have three vacancies for elected trustees, with two board
members having to retire in accordance with our articles, and one who has
come to the end of their current elected term but has indicated that they
will stand again. I would like to strongly encourage community members to
consider standing for election this year and look out for details of how to
stand, which will be circulated early next week.
Alongside community experience, we would be keen for people to stand with
skills and experience external relations, charity law, governance or the
cultural sector. However this is not essential. What is more important is a
commitment to open knowledge and the work of Wikimedia UK, and a
willingness to take on the responsibility of being a charity trustee and
board director of a limited company. There is more information about what
this means here
<https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-essential-trustee-what-you-n…>
.
We strongly value diversity in Wikimedia UK's board of trustees and this
year, would particularly encourage younger people (aged under 40) to stand.
Membership
You don’t have to be a member of the charity to attend the online AGM and
Community Day. However, you do need to be a member to be able to vote for
trustees and resolutions or to be able to stand for election to the board.
Membership costs only £5 a year and takes a few minutes to apply for here
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Membership>.
If you have any questions or more general comments, please do get in touch
with me or Katie.
With best wishes
Lucy
