There is a new property on Wikidata, P4755, for UK railway station
codes (e.g. BNS for Birmingham New Street):, as used by many
ticket-booking and live-timetable websites.
Now just 72 stations lack their station code on Wikidata:
https://petscan.wmflabs.org/?language=en&project=wikipedia&depth=3&categori…
compared to over 2,500 that have them.
Please help to add the last few.

For the next Cambridge meetup, on Sunday 29 April, we are taking up an opportunity to be in Amazon's new research place, just opposite Cambridge station. (This is not their Castle park centre.) That means it is ticket-only.
The event page is at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meetup/Cambridge/37
You do need a ticket from
https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cambridge-wikimedia-meetup-tickets-445242291…
to get in, and there will be a list of real names on the door. Sorry if these arrangements don't suit everybody, but they come rather literally with the territory. (If it helps, just mail me.) I see the map on the Eventbrite page is a bit rubbish.

Dear all
I'm delighted to introduce *Sandy Balfour* as Wikimedia UK's Interim Chief
Executive while I'm on maternity leave. Sandy has spent a couple of days
with the team this week and is learning about the organisation and the
wider Wikimedia movement whilst getting to know the staff team.
I will be starting my leave on Monday and am planning to return in October.
Sandy will be covering my post part time, with some of my responsibilities
being covered by Daria Cybulska, Head of Programmes and Evaluation.
*Sandy has a varied and extensive background - including both executive and
non executive roles in the charity sector - and brings skills in
leadership, financial management, education, media and communications. He
is also a published writer and journalist. I'm sure many of you will get
the opportunity to meet Sandy over the next seven months, in particular at
the AGM in July.*
*With best wishes*
*Lucy *

The Wikimedia projects are run by the Wikimedia Foundation (who operate
Wikipedia, amongst other projects). Wikimedia UK is an independent
non-profit charity with no legal control over Wikipedia nor responsibility
for its contents.
Forwarding from wikimedia-l, where there’s some discussion happening about this. Presumably WMUK’s consent was obtained first, per the chapter’s agreement?
Thanks,

I thought you UK Wikimedia peeps might be interested in this event at NewSpeak House in East London on Monday 16th April.
Are you a software developer interested in the media or economics? Or a journalist interested in technology’s capacity to inform and empower?Join us for this informal brainstorming evening hosted by Economy, a non-profit organisation that aims to make economics more accessible and relevant to the public. Economy wants to experiment with innovative technologies that can change people’s consumption of news and make economics less confusing. They also believe that bringing people together from different fields is the best way to spark creativity. You don’t need a deep knowledge of economics, just an interest in helping the public make better life choices.

I think this would be a good opportunity for one of Wikimedia UK's female
volunteers to talk about their work.

Hi David,
I started Women in Red which moved the needle from 14% to 17.49%. She can

Nations, Unesco, cambridge uni, wikimedia uk, ng, fr, ca, etc and the BBC.
Happy for you to give her my details.

Got a call on Friday from Fiona Tatton from Womanthology. She was
interested in talking to someone who's worked on improving
representation of women in Wikipedia, and editing Wikipedia.
Coverage is basically talking to individuals about what they do.
I'm pretty sure this'll be a positive for our work ...
Best method: look at the site, if you'd like to be there then go to
the contact form.
(She left a phone message with Lucy, but I said I'd forward something here too.)

Great speaking to you just now. Thank you for your time. As
discussed, I work on Womanthology, a digital magazine that champions
positive female role models and challenges the stereotypes of what it
means to be a ‘successful’ woman today. Please have a look:

I’m working on a Women of History issue - I’m interested in
representation of historical female figures and the way editathons are
being used to highlight the achievements of women who have been
previously overlooked.

The Cambridge University Library Bulletin has published an article of mine:
http://www.lib.cam.ac.uk/CULIB/current_issue.htm
It is a retrospective on my Wikimedian in Residence period last year. For more recent information on ContentMine, see the grant proposal at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/ScienceSource
Which has closed, now (as of yesterday), so _please don't_ add to the page. I'm listed as a participant, reflecting my current volunteer status at the company.
The CULIB article allows for mail comments. I'm always glad to hear from Wikimedians interested in what ContentMine is up to.
By the way, the Cambridge Science Festival is in mid-March:
https://www.sciencefestival.cam.ac.uk/
The programme PDF mentions an editathon at the Moore Library, 6 to 8 pm, on 15 March. I'll try to get more details for that. The event "Wiki, please, explain!" on 21 March is actually about machine learning.
Also of possible interest, in Cambridge, is this:
https://elifesci.org/innovationsprint2018.
Second week of May, apply though by 5 March. It's basically a hackathon.
