Dear community,
We are now preparing for plans for next year. This is a complicated task
with many viewpoints and factors to consider. Your views are an important
part of this and I am publishing today a discussion paper with suggestions
for how the chapter can develop over the next year and beyond.
You can access it here
https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/File:Shaping_our_programme_2014.pdf
Please comment on the discussion page.
Thanks and hope to see many of you at Wikimania.

Greetings Wikimanians and Wikimedians in the UK.,
User Fae is running a session at 2pm tomorrow

users of the mass upload tool and a member of the steering group that
commissioned it.
This session will cover an adhoc informal demonstration and discussion /
Q&A workshop.
This event is part of a series re the Mass upload tool, and covers how to
use the mass upload tool. There will be other sessions that cover issues

We don't know yet for sure what the disappeared page is.
I would advise caution before spreading it across the Net and back.
Remember that Wikipedia is *big and scary* to people outside it. It's
quite possible this is something that really doesn't belong in a BLP,
but the subject doesn't quite know what to do about it.
Possibly, if/when the Foundation finds out, it should first pass the
issue to the OTRS volunteers who handle BLP problems to examine.

Just by way of an update:
We'll be doing tours at 11, 2, and 5 on Wednesday (with me) and Thursday (with Chris McKenna). We might be able to arrange tours at other times if there's demand.
Please sign up on the wiki or ping me offlist if you'd like to come, just so we have an idea of demand.
This is a good opportunity to familiarise yourself with the conference venue (which is a bit of a rabbit warren!) while it's still relatively quiet.
Best,

Hello everyone,
I've just come across a good blog post about last week's "She must be Wiki
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/SHE_MUST_BE_WIKI:_Feminist_Film_Wiki-a-thon>"
editathon about feminist film. Sounds like everyone enjoyed the event, but
that some of the content they created fell a little foul of notability
guidelines.
The blog post is here -
http://www.thefword.org.uk/blog/2014/08/ICA_feminist_Wiki-a-thon
Thank you to the trainers who helped out on the day (the event page says
EdwardX and LoopZilla) - it sounds like they are enthused enough to have
another event, so well done everyone involved.
Stevie
PS if any editors feel like helping them with their notability issues, then
I am sure it would be very welcome!

Hello everyone,
I write to let you know that Wikimedia UK has just begun recruiting for a
paid intern to join our programme team for three months.
The main focus of the role will be to organise and support the delivery of
Wikimedia gender gap related events, particularly Women in Science
editathons, focusing on Ada Lovelace October celebrations. We would
particularly welcome applicants with an understanding of, and experience
of, our mission.
You can see full details of the role here -
https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Programme_intern - and the closing date is
5pm on Monday 18 August. We do hope that you will apply, or share the
details with your networks.
Thanks and regards,
Stevie
