Hello everyone,
New Wikimedia UK Trustee Alastair McCapra has shared this news story with
us today that National Geographic has been searching through its archives
and has created a photo blog using the website Tumblr.
As you'll see there are some incredibly striking images there. They are
using the blog to sell prints so they aren't freely licensed but the idea
occurs to me that a similar image blog for Commons would be a great idea
and could also serve as an excellent way to promote Wiki Loves Monuments
(for example). I wonder if anyone would be inspired to give this a go...
You can see the news story
here<http://www.thefoxisblack.com/2013/06/24/national-geographic-turns-their-mas…>and
visit
the Tumblr (which I heartily recommend) here<http://natgeofound.tumblr.com/>
.
Thanks,
Stevie

Hello everyone,
This is a final call for any relevant content to be added to the Wikimedia
UK monthly report for May 2013.
If you have relevant content to add then please do go ahead! I'm looking to
publish by the end of Wednesday 26 June. May's report can be seen at
http://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/Reports/2013/May
Also, if you've been involved in chapter-related activity in June, do get
involved and let everyone know what you've been working on. June's draft
report can be seen here - http://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/Reports/2013/June
Many thanks,

Dear all,
I'd like to draw to your attention this joint statement with the Foundation
which I have just, with the authority of the Board, posted on our blog
regarding the management of conflicts of interests and this year's
fundraiser.

Chair, Wikimedia UK
The Netherlands Chapter had a really good session on editing their pages on
fashion subjects. According to those who attended it attracted a lot of new
people the vast majority of whom were women. A key target for us of course.
We have some world class colleges in the UK where we could do a similar
editathon.
Anyone think this is a runner and may be interested in taking a lead on
this?

Hi all,
I'm working on an ongoing basis to develop our introduction/induction
process for new members.
Some of you may have been in the mini-session I led at the AGM asking for
feedback/ideas on this very topic. One valuable insight that came out of
that was that we have two broad groups we want to attract to volunteering
opportunities - including membership - in the Chapter; those who have
edited before and those who have not.
One idea I'm exploring is reformulating the currently separate sections on
the UK Wiki on 'Volunteering' and 'Join us' into a 'Volunteer portal' which
brings together these resources underneath an introductory landing page
which directs people to further information based on whether they have
editing experience. Sadly however my lack of experience working with
complex templates, and lack of time to get up to speed to deliver this
myself is proving an obstacle.
What I would love is if some wonderful person/persons could offer a few
hours of their time in the next fortnight to work with me on internal wiki
to develop a portal template we can then move onto the UK wiki when the
content to compliment it is ready - again, I'm drafting the content for new
members on the UK wiki, and welcome input from anyone who has time or
inclination.
Drop me a line if you think you can help (or indeed, reply here!) I
understand that there are probably many of you who *could* do this but
might struggle to find the time in the next few weeks :)
