The regulators said there was nothing wrong with the Icelandic banks -
I think going with what the regulators say is sufficient to satisfy
the duty of care. Anyway, this is massively off-topic!
Hi All,
I would like to apologise for my sudden spate of inactivity in WMUK /
Wikimania 2010 matters - just 5 days ago I suffered the loss of my father
who had been suffering from cancer for the past year.
It is high on my list of tasks to get to the AGM and to get reinvolved as
soon as possible - but I didn't want you to think I had just popped out of
existance! I am as interested in WMUK and its' acitivities as I will ever be
- I just, right now, don't have the time to be as involved proactively as I
would like to be now and in the future.
As always, if you need me for anything, please do not hesitate to email me.
I am willing and able to work on projects (it does infact help me to busy my
mind).
Regards,

Apparently, there is an IRC meeting to discuss the wikimania bid (in
#wikimania-oxford) at 8:30 tonight. I only know this because I saw it
in the chapter website's sidebar (and got the time from the IRC
channel topic) - there doesn't seem to have been an email about it
(unless I missed it). So, here is an email! There are lots of tasks
(mostly small) that still need to be done, so as many people turning
up as possible would be great. See you all there!

It's not, but getting it soon is. You need an annual income of over
£5000 to register, we're not likely to get that kind of money (or
pledges for it) for several months at least without including
Wikimania sponsorship.

Of course it was their responsibility. They made the decision to put
their money in those banks. That doesn't mean it was their fault the
money disappeared.

It got a bucketload of images, so it achieved its aims ;-p

That wasn't due to risky investments, that was due to putting your
money in a bank that then went bust. Hardly their fault.

I have just read through the rules again and it does seem like a
rather big project! I would offer my services and help people like
Cary assessing the images, but I don't know how to and even if I would
qualify to do so, having not been involved in anything like this
before?!
Good luck to you all!
