Remember, it's TONIGHT, not TOMORROW!

Two (informal) meetups in two weeks Gordon. When the first was
announced by David / James F (Jan 2nd) Jimbo let it be known that he
would be in London the following week, which seems to be a good
excuse for the second (Jan 10th).
Cheers,
Andrew

James F. managed to pick the one pub in London that was closed for
repairs. So we stuck an oblique sign on the window (which may still be
there for all I know) and adjourned to the Chandos (?) near Leicester
Square.
Attendees: James Forrester, me, Phoebe (User:Brassratgirl), Austin
Hair, User:Psychonaut, User:Morwen, Chris McKenna (User:Thryduulf),
Chris Sherlock (User:Ta bu shi da yu) and his wife (they're doing
Europe for their honeymoon) and Psychonaut's pet ferret. We got lots
of photos on James' [[Casio Exilim]] EX-S600 camera, which I found the
"get usable photos in really dim light" setting on. I did my best to
be loud, drunk and embarrassing, except I am not susceptible to
embarrassment. We had a marvellous time. Excellent stuff.
Next week: what day depends on your schedule, Jimbo. Monday or Tuesday
evening, and where are you staying? Not sure which pub either. Chandos
has nice beer but was bloody impossible to find a seat in ... might
see if the Montagu Pyke is open this time.

Never fear Gordo - there's still one more meetup to come! I missed the
first myself, and will miss the second, but I did get to meet James
(v. briefly), Phoebe and Austin, as well as Andrea Forte and Giota
Alevizou (researchers/Wikimaniacs), who were all in town. 'Twas cool -
would like to meet/have met others - but there will be other meetups..
As to the next meetup, has Wednesday been confirmed? I think Andrea
will be in town until Tuesday - and she was curious..

I just spoke to Jenny Kleeman, a freelance journalist who's
considering an article on prolific British Wikipedians. (She wrote to
Chris McKenna first, who pointed her to me.) I said posting to this
list would probably be a good first move.
Basically, look at [[Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by number of
edits]] and pick the most prolific human editors based in Britain ...
people like e.g. Charles Matthews would be ideal (as #2 human editor
*and* a mathematician who's worked hard on the maths areas *and* a
Wikipedia nuts'n'bolts person) if he's got the time. I see Morwen
pretty high up the list too. Who else is there high up in that list
who's British?
Anyone interested in participating, please email me and I'll forward
you her email address.

You heard him :-) Bunch of us are meeting down the pub, so Wikipedians
in London are most welcome. Chris Sherlock (Ta bu shi da yu),
Brassratgirl and Austin Hair are in town as well. I'll be along around
6:30 or 7ish after work.

Per subject line on your own message, Tue 2nd Jan, tonight :-)

Well, it wasn't a "meeting," it was just James and me going down the
pub 'cos we haven't in ages, and then all these overseas visitors
happened to be in town, and then I still hadn't picked a pub by
yesterday afternoon ...
So tomorrow is just a bunch of people going down the pub, next week
we'll have a Jimbo-blessed ... going down the pub ;-)
