Heya folks - Just reaching out to see if there is any interest in setting up a meeting for June at the Glen Park Branch Library. At this moment, the room is available for the following saturdays: June 21st and the 28th and July 12th. The room fits about 50 people. I'm assuming its a standard setup of a few long tables and chairs all around. I was thinking around 1pm start to around 4 pm finish?
Location and Restaurants and Barthttp://maps.google.com/maps?f=l&hl=en&geocode=&q=Restaurant&near=2825+Diamond+St,+san+francisco,+ca&sll=37.734357,-122.433958&sspn=0.009384,0.023432&ie=UTF8&ll=37.73412,-122.433958&spn=0.002346,0.005858&z=18
Brion's up for giving a preview of his Wikimania presentation on the tech status of things.
The room is free so long as we don't need any special equipment or are planning a banquet. I'm still trying to get a hold of the local branch to see if its ok to bring a brown bag lunch without the $100 fee for set/cleanup, if they say we have to at least pay the $25 fee (Coffee and Pasteries) then I'll pay that and accept any voluntary donations for reimbursement to share the cost.
Please reply back to the group if you're interested in this location and a particular date.
We'll also look to plan a followup after Mania meeting in early August if there is interest.
Thanks!

I'm interested; would prefer either of the later two dates (June 28 or July 12).

Personally I vote the June 21 or July 12. Otherwise I'm game.

Heya folks - quick update!
Voting is still wide open and will be through the end of this week. Please don't be shy about sharing your RSVP with the rest of us.
NO FOOD ALLOWED!!! Well... "snacks" as in cookies and such are ok, but please DO NOT BRING YOUR LUNCH to the meeting. There are plenty of places about to eat it before you arrive. This is apparently a fairly newly opened meeting room and the branch is requesting NO FOOD. Might try to get a room in the main branch where we can brown bag it for the cheap fee.
Of course, if anyone has any other location suggestions for future meetings please don't be shy! Remember to keep in mind that many of us rely on public transportation.
Looking forward to seein' ya'll there!

Phoebe, some of the Foundation staff are going a little early (e.g., arriving in Alexandria roughly on the 13th) to take some holiday time for sightseeing before the conference starts. And I think we're all planning to leave Egypt for SFO on the 20th.
I attended one meet up, and I came away somewhat puzzled. What was it for? We sat around and had an unfocused conversation, and then everyone retired to a bar/restaurant, and I left for BART.
So, could we at least talk about what the purpose is? Maybe I should have gone to the bar, maybe socializing is our goal.

Well I figure it is about time we figure this out so we can announce it.
From the "votes" I counted on the mailing list the 28th is the preferred
choice. It seems that a number of people will be gone for July to Wikimania. So if there isn't any major reason not to, can we settle for June 28th? At, what, 1:00PM in the Glen Park Branch Library?
