Awesome. 30 was about what I had guessed previously as a max. The November
07 meetup was about 20, if I remember.
Personally, I'd say something like August 23rd. We can't do the 30th
anyways as it is Labor Day weekend. Personally I'm hoping to get meet ups
set up for a fairly regular basis, so it is not a "big deal" if you can't
make one. Let's be realistic, no matter when we schedule a meet up -
someone won't be able to make it.

I work a lot on open wireless networks. All of my important traffic is
encrypted (HTTPS, IMAPS, SSH). Some unimportant stuff isn't, but if
somebody runs off with, say, my Slashdot identity, I don't really care.
The one exception is Wikipedia. It doesn't seem to do HTTPS. Before I
was an admin, I didn't care, but now somebody getting ahold of my
credentials could cause a fair bit of trouble. This makes me a bit
paranoid about using Wikipedia at all, and inclines me to stay logged
out. So in a way, becoming an admin has made me less engaged.
The best solution I've come up with for this is setting up my own secure
proxy and then using something like FoxyProxy to selectively route
Wikipedia traffic to the proxy. That seems like an awful lot of
rigamarole, though, and I'm wondering if anybody has some simpler solution.
Thanks,
William
Folks - JUST found out that do to some issues at Glen Park Library Branch we
will NOT
WILL NOT
Be able to meet at this location tomorrow.
I know... I know...
I tried the local Recreation Center in Glen Park but they are booked and
charge a fee.
Also it being Pride weekend as well I have been hearing a steady rush of
conversation on the crowded public transportation issues starting tonight
and going through sunday due to various celebrations, the parade and after
parade celebrations especially with the recent passing of the Gay Marriage
bill.
Your Thoughts? Suggestions?

Very Sad!! I didn't even see the emails either. It is a good thing Cary
told me. But yes - I'd say all is off. I highly doubt anyone will be
available next weekend (4th of July and all) and after that alot of people
will be gone for Wikimania. So much for #6!
Related note: In case people didn't notice. I already created meetup #7 and
put it for "August" in the vain hope that if we start talking about it now -
we can get something planned and scheduled plenty in advance. Exact dates
are unimportant this far out - but a finding a meeting space is key - as
usual. Any suggestions are welcome. Maybe the library again - if we can
guilt them into not canceling on us at the last minute.... Again.

Freebase is a free database of the world's knowledge. It draws its
information from a variety of sources, of which Wikipedia is one of
the most important.
Next Tuesday we'll be having a user group meeting here in SF and one
of our presenters will be talking about how we mine Wikipedia for data
and extract semantic meaning from articles. There was a previous talk
on a related topic ("Mining Wikipedia") which I've posted at
http://blog.freebase.com/2008/06/10/brian-karlak-on-mining-wikipedia/
and which might also be of interest.
Powerset (http://powerset.com/) , the semantic search engine which
searches Wikipedia and Freebase, will also be sending one of their
techs to talk about how they do what they do.
You can see the full list of speakers and presentation topics at
http://blog.freebase.com/2008/06/12/speakers-at-next-tuesdays-freebase-user…
If you'd like to attend, please RSVP at
http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/760574/ so we know how much beer and
pizza to provide.
Thanks!
K.

Can someone change the list settings to have a "reply to list" by default?
It makes for much livelier lists altogether as messages aren't sent by
default to just one person.
Cheers,
Delphine
