Hello all,
We have a booth at Maker Faire on May 17th and 18th, in San Mateo, and we
are urgently looking for your help! We are looking for volunteers who can
staff the booth and talk about Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects with
the show attendees. Maker Faire is a lot of fun, and people usually have
lots of questions about Wikipedia. Help us demonstrate how Wikipedia works!
We are looking particularly for people who can help with:
* setup on Friday evening
* staff for Saturday
* staff and coordinator for Sunday -- the coordinator will help make sure
that everything is supervised on Sunday, and take down the booth at the end
of the day
* someone with a car to transport material on Sunday
Please email me if you can join! Of course, all levels of experience with
Wikipedia are welcome. We have some free tickets available for volunteers,
so please email me for more information. More details are available on our
Wikipedia meet-up page:

Hi All,
I am considering going to Wikimania 2014 in London. Is anyone else in the
Bay Area in a similar position and/or would be interested in coordinating?
Thanks,
Shreyas
Hi folks,
If any of you find yourself in the Sacramento-Davis area this month, I'm
hosting a couple of Friday afternoon edit-a-thons and a "Teaching With
Wikipedia" workshop at UC Davis. Everyone is welcome -- and feel free to
forward to people who might want to attend. The edit-a-thon on the 23rd is
being held in memory of Adrianne Wadewitz.
best,
Phoebe
p.s. if you can't make it but want to be added to my very low traffic
notification list for Wikipedia events in Davis, let me know that as well!

Subject: Wikipedia workshops & edit-a-thons in May
Hello all,
You're receiving this because you attended a past campus edit-a-thon,
expressed interest in attending past events, or if I have spoken to you
about Wikipedia. Please share and send to friends and colleagues who you
think may be interested!
--------------
The UC Davis library is hosting three Wikipedia-related events in May:
*Thursday May 8, 3:30-5:00pm: Teaching with Wikipedia workshop*
For instructors who are interested in teaching with Wikipedia: this talk
and discussion will give an overview of how Wikipedia works, possible
assignments, and benefits and pitfalls of using the world's largest
encyclopedia to teach writing and critical thinking.
*Friday May 16, 1:00-3:00pm: Wikipedia edit-a-thon*
Want to learn how to edit Wikipedia? Come to this informal edit-a-thon to
learn how, get your questions answered or to edit with others if you're
experienced. This edit-a-thon will focus on topics about California and UC
Davis, as well as any topic of interest. Bring your questions and ideas.
Everyone is welcome!
*Friday May 23, 1:00-3:00pm: Wikipedia edit-a-thon*
Like the previous edit-a-thon, this will be an informal drop-in event open
to beginning and experienced editors alike. This edit-a-thon will be
focused on improving biographies of women scientists and academics.
Everyone is welcome!
All three events will be hosted in the Shields Library, Library Instruction
Lab (Room 165), which has computers and campus wifi.
