Hi all,
As you know we're planning a meetup for Feb. 6... however, someone
mentioned to me they thought the WMF offices would not be available
that day due to another meeting. Can someone from the office confirm
if the space is available or not?
If it's not, do ya'll want to ....
1) reschedule (back to) January 30 ?
2) meet somewhere else?
Thanks!

When people mentioned Stanford last night, I asked their Open Source
Lab's event mailing list, and found a couple people willing to help,
one of whom (Todd Davies) is willing to act as an academic sponsor.
So I created a bid page:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2011/Bids/Stanford
All we need is to sign up local sponsors (e.g. Google, Oracle, who
else?) to pay for the venues and as much on campus room and board as
possible, if we want to be sure to beat Montreal and Tokyo. I hope we
can talk about that at the Meetup on the 6th.
I'm not partial to whether this is a 2011 or a 2012 bid, but the
instructions said that a 2011 bid was still likely feasible. I would
prefer Stanford to UCSC because it's closer to me, but I would also
wholeheartedly support a UC Berkeley, UCSF, USF, etc. bids. Those are
closer still to me, but logistically they seem more problematic in
terms of accommodations, parking, raising sponsorship funds, etc. I
would prefer to avoid conference facilities without libraries.
Cheers,
James
I think it's the board meeting February 6, right Cary?
So that would be bad, in that the meetup wouldn't be able to use the big room, but good, in that the meetup people and the board might get to spend a little time together.
On the general issue, I'm pretty sure we could accommodate the meetup any time -- I can't think of any dates that would be completely unworkable.
Thanks,
Sue

There is definitely another meeting going on that day. Whether or not
it will impact our ability to have a meetup is another matter
entirely. There's a small chance it may work to the benefit of the
meetup (in the fact that resources going to keeping the office open
are not being duplicated another week).

OK, to accommodate a few folks who couldn't make it on the 30th, let's
have the meetup on:
* Saturday, February 6
* Wikimedia Foundation offices, 149 New Montgomery St., SF [assuming
someone from the office can attend]
* 3pm-ish; feel free to suggest alternate times
This also gives us an extra week to all come up with:
* Awesome ideas for Maker Faire
* Ideas for meetups and projects (fieldtrips, SF loves art, ??? --
think about what you'd be willing to help coordinate)
* More agenda items
PLEASE sign up on the wiki if you intend to come, so that a) we can
plan for snacks; b) someone can let you in the door.

I would also like to state for the record that the wikimedia-sf list is not
Foundation-L. You are not limited to a specific number of posts a month,
and no one is going to smite you too badly for saying "me too!". I mainly
say this because we _NEED_ more people to respond, if not on list at least
on wiki.
Granted the goal for this year is to make these affairs more regular, so
that missing one wont be such a "big deal", but it is extremely helpful to
the meetup organizers to have some idea of what others things. Either that,
or we go back to the Shakata-tatorship model, which I'm cool with. I do
love having peons.

Dear all,
It's been too long! Let's have a meetup.
I added a list of possible dates here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/San_Francisco_11
Please indicate which works best for you (or proposed different dates)
and propose locations and agenda items.
Suggested agenda items so far:
* planning for Maker Faire (which I'm super excited about!)
* potential spring field trips
* recruiting more bay area editors to meetups
cheers,
Phoebe
I'm free both days right now, so let's assume either's fine. And if I can't do it, I'm sure someone else on the staff would :-)

If the Foundation is willing to have us that would be awesome :) I'll
subsidize snacks!
Any preferences on a day? It sounds like Jan. 30 or Feb. 6 are shaping
up as the best days.

Don't forget -- you can do it at the Wikimedia offices now, if you want. Our space is close to BART, and big enough to host a meetup.

There is also another holiday that weekend that some of us may be more
inclined to think about than President's Day.

I'd actually prefer somewhere other than the tea place. I wasn't so
impressed with it last time.

I know you're all reading that subject line, thinking to yourselves "What
the hell, a little early?" (Or, ya know, maybe that's just me). Anyways, I
received a mailing from the Maker people with a little flier and such,
essentially "inviting" us back for 2010. Not much in the way of information
other than it is May 22 & 23 (weekend before Memorial day) and once again at
the San Mateo County Event Center.
For those that don't know: http://makerfaire.com/
For those that weren't involved last year (or have forgotten):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/San_Francisco/Maker_Faire
And because asking this group if anyone "wants" to go is silly... I jumped
directly to:
