Last month - the month of July - saw nice improvements in our quest to
promote free and open knowledge in Ghana.
Translation:
The English to Ewe/Twi/Ga/Akan tranlsation saw a major increase in
translation memory and glossary contributions that expanded the
translations. Over 2,000 words were added to the English to Akan
translation memory on Google Translate Toolkit and work on English to Ga
is ongoing. From Hong Kong too, Bodomo is working on English to Dagaare
translation. I wish to take this platform to also thank Michael Annor,
Seyram Ahiabor and Ben Adamtey for their zealous support in expanding
the Ghanaian languages on the international stage
WLM:
Nkansah Rexford also started work on the Wiki Loves Monuments with much
support from Rupert, a Wikipedian in Switzerland. Much progress have
been reached. Almost all the monuments we can think of are documented on
the site and few additions such as coordinates, locations, and comments
are being added to make it much complete to be inputted in a database
for use in the WLM.
New Members:
The Meta Wikimedia Ghana site recorded new members to the initial
members fold. Sandister Tei, a journalist and blogger, who joined the
initial members also helped rope in new members who are High School
school (JHS). Her zeal in promoting free and open knowledge became much
clearer as she took time off her time to explain to school kids how
generous and educative Wikipedia and other sister projects can be to
their education. She's now an account hold for our social media
campaigns platforms, namely, Wikimedia Ghana (Facebook, Twitter).
Permission Request:
A request for permission of use of Wikimedia Trademark(s) and logo has
been submitted to the Trademark(a)wikimedia.org. Even though awaiting
response, we are still working on promoting free and open knowledge.
WikiCommons:
Myself, Rexford, managed to upload over 20 photos to the Wikicommons
domain for public viewing and sharing. Few of the images were embedded
in articles and the rest will soon find the seats on wikipedia articles.
The way forward:
We're all doing a great job in promoting free and open knowledge in our
own setting. We're not finding many members to join our fold in
furtherance of our goals and objectives. However, the best way to for us
to impress on the public is via our contributions to Wikipedia and other
sister projects.
Via our social media platforms too, lets encourage as many people to
partake in promoting free and open knowledge. Still, word of mouth is
the best way to get our personal friends to sign up and support Wikimedia.
I leave you here and wish you all the best in the month of August in
promoting free and open knowledge.
Happy Wikimedian 8-)

Hmmm... Nice suggestion there. Sounds really great. In fact, we, in
Ghana, planning a wikimedia local chapter is currently open to
collaborations.
But since we're kind of 'newbies' to this whole world of wikimedia,
maybe sharing some nice guidelines on how we should go about the
collaborations will be much appreciated.
Rupert (copied; WikimediaCH) introduced us to WLM and he's gradually
guiding us through.
For me, any collaborations are welcomed, and we're ready to learn more
of how to make that work.
I don't think its a bad idea that other initial members of planning
wikimedia ghana wouldn't love to get involved.
Thanks.
