Hello
I suggest the Wikimedia Ghana User Group rewards the some members at the
end of the year.
I suggest 2 awards
Wikimedian of the year & Wikipedian of the year.
Let me know if you agree, or not. More categories we can consider? Who
qualifies and who doesn't, so we open nominations.

Hello guys.
You are invited to join Wikipedia Election 2016 Project being organised by
the group itself (not individuals) as earlier announced.
The aim of the project is to have a portal where Wikipedia articles on
people, topics, events, places related to election 2016 can be grouped so
people can find them easily to either use the information there, or
contribute to it.
To achieve this also brings out the second aim, which is to encourage more
people learning to edit Wikipedia, and even hearing about the WMF as a
whole (that is the group's mandate btw).
If you join this project, you are essentially helping make the above-stated
aims happen.
This is your opportunity to get edits (if you need motivation) and also be
physically involved in outreach because without edits and involvement, you
really don't enjoy the community. Those of you who also plan to embark on
projects, it's participation like this that demonstrates your dedication to
WMF and your user group.
The individuals running funded projects, going on travels, doing
residencies here and overseas among other things, started with these kind
of groups events, so get involved. That's how we all grew in the movement.
Those who offered to help start up are already at work. Check out the page
<http://bit.ly/2ddVX2f> we are building.
Regards,

Those doing something Wikimedia-related on NVD can extend an invite to the
larger community via the mailing list and Whatsapp group.
Other than that please let's have a look at the NVD Wikipedia article
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Volunteer_Day> and help out. Marian
Adeaba has offered to update it, so you can join her by visiting the page.
It's a big day for Ghana, get involved in any way you can!

I have been posed a question of how to check your edits by a member.
I am so sorry I never mentioned this to the new editors. I used to chase
people to count their edits until old age caught up with me :D j/k
So below's a tool you can use. I am sure the other experienced editors may
have their preferred tools too – suggestions are welcome.
But please don't use the number of edits you have to discourage yourself or
think you are not working hard. But it's a quick way to check what you've
been up to.
Some people have lots of edits but never help with any projects. Some get
involved with projects but don't have high edits. Some people also have
edits but are not content being used by browsers. Some have edits that were
useless and have been reversed. Some have edits and have even been banned,
some use robots ... In summary don't be discouraged if you don't have 1000s
or millions. Just stay active.
Here's the tool: Edit Counter <http://bit.ly/2cTA8o1>.
If you want further explanations you can leave me a Whatsapp voice note –
0204266290. I will attend to you when I step out of work.

The two current volunteers (working as your executives) of Wikimedia Ghana
which you elected are:
Georgina Ofori-Dwumfou who is charge of our events
Justice Kpakpo in charge of social media
For the new members, the co-founders who started Wikimedia outreach in
Ghana and set up the community include:
Oral Ofori
Rexford Nkansah
Sandister Tei (Agent/representative)
Ato Ulzen-Appiah
The co-founders really just work in any way possible to promote the group,
and usually, don’t insist on having any posts. Ato helps with Barcamps
especially, Rex administers the mailing list, Oral does PRO stuff.
We also have some long time experienced members and individuals running and
leading projects which they have individually taken grants for, and those
who have also worked with the Wikimedia Foundation.
–––––––––––––
As far as community property goes, Justice the social media volunteer has
been given a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 to help him do his work. I am
currently making arrangements for more logistics for Georgina if need be.
If you have any questions or comments let me know.
