Subject: [Wikimedia-l] Kevin Gorman has passed away
To: Wikimedia Mailing List <wikimedia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
I regret to inform everyone that Kevin Gorman, a Wikipedian who was the
first Wikipedian-in-residence at a US university or college, has passed
away. There is a memorial page on Facebook, and editors are leaving
condolences on his English Wikipedia talk page.

Good morning all.
The planned election will not be necessary because of the following
reasons:
– There were no volunteers for some of the roles
– In some cases only 1 person volunteered for a role uncontested
– In other cases, while people presented themselves as aspirants, they did
not follow the last requirement to engage group to be assessed if they
could do the job. That alone in itself could be an indication of the kind
of dedication we can expect to see from them.
Here is the ballot
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdODgAFSCoKTZIGaIAZbizfRXaGEwXhaAx…>
we originally planned to use
.
Therefore:
Justice is our newly selected social media volunteer (Ayisi didn't show
up). We'll start a process for Justice to receive some support for data.
He'll also be sent a tablet from the community to use in his work.
Sandister will offer editing assistance
Georgina is our events person. She'll also receive travel support etc when
a grant is approved to help her coordinate our events.
I had to drop all our activities and edit-a-thons to make sure we sort out
the volunteer issues. Now that we have at least two people on board, I will
proceed to continue where we left off. I am excited to get back to our
Saturday meetups!
Many t
hanks.

@All
Those who sent their names for positions ––
Please if you've not presented yourself to the community/bothered to
demonstrate how you'll get the job done, you come across as indifferent or
not having the time.
I have volunteered for this group before. I still do. It's not for the
person too busy for group activities, half-hearted or people just doing
this for their own personal gain.
We have goals to meet. Just throwing your name into the Google doc is not
enough.
You want democracy, you should be prepared to spend time and effort getting
it.

Hi all,
I had a chat with Felix today, and it appeared he has been working on
getting the WMGUG in the WLM this year.
Felix added WMGHUG to the list of participating countries and prepared a
grant for the event which has been reviewed by a couple of people at
Wikimania already.
All this happened, with the knowledge of the closed group of a team he
formed, with the understanding, they'll help get the project going.
Considering how far he's gotten without bothering to include the WMGUG in
the early stages, I do not know how and when he was working on getting the
group informed of his intentions.
Well, at this moment, I believe it'll be best we (those who signed up here
to be part of this year's WLM) redirect our concerns and questions relating
to the WLM to Felix.
I and many on this list have no idea what the grant or project or proposal
is regarding WLM, so please get in touch with Felix for further details
relating to this year's WLM.
thanks.
