I've created Facebook page for LangCom: https://www.facebook.com/wmlangcom/
It could be used for various announcements ("New Wikimedia language!", "We are now working on this!" etc.) and discussions about things we are interested in.
I'll give admin permissions to every LangCom member who wants it.
Really interesting. This will help a lot of a newbies.
Regards Satdeep Gill

How can we make sure that we are recognised as being the Language committee ... it is something Facebook offers and has been done for many chapters and groups. Thanks, GerardM

Hi Gerard,
Are you talking about being verified by facebook ? The tick sign which verifies that our page is the official page of the Language committee ?

Hi! You can talk with Jeff Elder. He works with the WMF's social media. Thanks to him, we (Wikimedia Colombia) received the verification badge in Twitter, and also he proposed the FB verification.

This is my personal email address. Everything sent from this email address is in a personal capacity.
Just please don't make it the only place where this is announced. Not everybody has a Facebook account. Also, Facebook is very ephemeral - posts come and go, they are hard to search, and it's challenging to find old ones.
A recently suggested idea, that a Langcom member who champions a new project would write a blog post about is much more sustainable, aligned with Wikimedia values, and convenient.

Hi agree with Amir that not everybody is on facebook and writing blog posts is indeed better.
But having a facebook page will also help us. And yes it should not the only place where we share stories.

Agreement from me also - so I guess any FB-post should be duplicated to the blog and vice versa.

First, the main discussion will be always here.
Then, yes, we should post materials on Wikimedia web sites, then on other places.
But we should use social media as social media: to reach people interested in what we are doing, those willing to contribute, as well as to talk with people.
Technologically, we failed epically. So, we have to use a Volks Wagen while waiting for the new model of Lada. We have to turn a blind eye to industrial profiteers ;)

+1. This is a good idea, Having a blogpost in official wikipedia blog when a new language or even new project is created has many advantages. Social media like facebook or whatever you are active can share them then.
Thanks Santhosh

I can’t imagine where I would write a blog post, but à propos a language subtag that was granted not long ago for the use of this committee, why hasn’t simple.wikipedia.org been migrated to en-simple.wikipedia.org?
Michael
Because moving wikis is currently technically unfeasible for Wikimedia.

I mentioned this recently in the thread about improving the site creation process: there are certain technical blockers for making the move. Much less than there were two years ago, but there still are some. I kind of hope it will happen in 2017, but cannot promise it.
