Hi, y'all.
Coming up tomorrow, Wednesday, December 21 at 6 p.m. PDT is the monthly Bay
Area WikiSalon series. We will have a livestream and archive for the
benefit of remote Wikimedians or those unable to attend for one reason or
another. The topic will be the Wikipedia Teahouse and the presenter is well
respected Wikimedian Jim Heaphy [[User:Cullen328]]
The livestream will start at 6:30 p.m. PDT and will conclude before 7:15
p.m.

The full title of Jim's presentation is: Welcoming and Helping New Editors:
A Month at the Wikipedia Teahouse: an overview of the Teahouse and an
analysis of over 300 Teahouse conversations during the month of August, 2016
Jim gave a longer version of this presentation in October at WikiConference
North America 2016 in San Diego, California.

Hi, everybody.
We are excited to remind you of the ninth in the Bay Area WikiSalon series
that is coming up this Wednesday evening.
Details (RSVP suggested) here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Bay_Area_WikiSalon_December_2016
(RSVP helps us know how much food and drink to bring in)
This month we will have a brief presentation about the Wikipedia Teahouse,
plus the usual mingling, lightning talks, announcements from the floor,
munching and so on. We will also try to set up a round table for editing,
if you are into that.
What is a WikiSalon? A monthly safe and inclusive meatspace event conducted
in organized chaos and somebody cleans up the mess afterwards. Livestream
links for the presentation are available during presentation months, and
will be forthcoming for those of you that cannot attend.
Hope to see you there! Wayne (and Ben) - co-organizers
Any last minute questions or suggestions? Please call me at: 925-899-4051

P.S. Any help spreading the word through social media or other avenues
is most welcome! We plan to announce this on
various sites and invite various groups; if you would like to join in, check
our meta planning page, and please note any announcements you are
sending out:https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Monthly_WikiSalon_in_San_Francisco#Anno…
Please feel free to add to, refine, reorganize or edit the above
linked page: it is a wiki!
We need more helpers and organizers, so if you see a need, please jump
in, or talk to us about it!

Hello everybody!
I am excited to announce the 8th of the Bay Area WikiSalon
series, which
several of us cooked up and have been coordinating. The last
Wednesday
evening of every month (except December will be on the
21st), we
gather wiki enthusiasts to collaborate, mingle, and learn
about new
projects and ideas. Every other month we plan a brief formal
program. Some
programs will help orient those new to the wiki world,
others will speak
more to experienced wiki editors. We are working hard not to
make it a
total geekfest.
Our next event is, Wednesday, November 30 at 6pm, at the
Wikimedia
Foundation lounge in downtown SF. See link below for full
details and to RSVP:

post on
various sites and invite various groups; if you'd like
to join in, check
our meta planning page, and feel free to note any you are
inviting:

Hello US Wikimedians,
Here is a link to the Doodle poll to help us schedule this month's
Wikimedia United States Coalition meeting: http://doodle.com/poll/
kgy38bftyekrwg6h
You are welcome to add items to the meeting agenda at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WALRUS/November_2016#Agenda
Please note that:
* Thanksgiving Day is November 24th. Mindful of the high proportion of US
residents who have Thanksgiving celebrations, I omitted November 24th from
the list of options for this month's meeting.
* One of the agenda items for our November meeting will be to discuss
whether to have a December meeting, keeping in mind that many people take
time away from their regular activities in late December and early January.
If we decide not to meet in December, then this November meeting will be
our last for 2016 and the next meeting will be scheduled in January 2017.
Regards,
Pine
Please join us in downtown San Francisco!
Hi folks,
Please share this.
We would like to invite you to this month's Bay Area WikiSalon. The last
Wednesday evening of every month, Wikipedia and Wikimedia enthusiasts
gather at the Wikimedia Foundation lounge to collaborate, mingle, and learn
about new projects and ideas.
We will have no meaty agenda this month, but we will allow a brief period
for:
* Open mic for anybody who attended
http://wikiconference.org/wiki/2016/Main_Page in San Diego last week and
wants to share their takeaway
* Question & answer
* Open mic for announcements
* Maybe a focus on some topical election article editing with Ben?
Or, you can grab a couch, a booth, a stool or counter and do your own thing.
Please note: You should register here:
http://docs.google.com/forms/d/1cjLRrSTlEkGOPTQ-h6A0WvSFI4ZmIUl6jEHp_RYas-E
and bring a photo ID that matches your registration name. The building
policy is strict on the I.D. part. This also helps us figure out how much
food and drink to bring in! Feel free to stop by even if only to say a
quick hello, but you might have to give us a last minute call if you forget
to RSVP. Also, don't be shy about hitting us up if you have thoughts on
future speakers or wiki-related activities.
For further details, please see:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Bay_Area_WikiSalon_October_2016
PS: Mark your calendars ahead now for the last Wednesday in November, the
30th (the week after Thanksgiving), at 6 p.m. when our Bay Area WikiSalon
will host a super awesome top secret mystery guest mingling in our midst.
We will announce specifics at the upcoming WikiSalon.
See you soon! {{u|Peteforsyth|Pete F}}, {{u|Ben Creasy|Ben}}, {{u|Slaporte
