Hi everyone!
You can find the notes and shared links from today's meetup [on this etherpad](https://etherpad.wikimedia.org/p/bawug), featuring discussions on the use of AI for editing, needs for local pictures, delays in a transit construction project in Boston, efforts to import datasets from the Free Law Project to Wikidata, and how Indian History is represented on Wikipedia.
Next meetup: [July 11, 6.30-8.30pm](https://bookwhen.com/sequoiafabrica/e/ev-s36g-20240711183000) (please rsvp if you can, it helps with logistics), at 1736 18th street! We have invited a local researcher to present on research on AI tools in editing wikipedia, since there's a lot of interest in this.
We are also planning a Wiki Picnic (Wiknic) on Saturday August 17, 11am-2pm, at Mission Dolores Park (near Bart 16th/Mission in San Francisco).
Hope everyone is doing well!Emeline and Elan
Hey, all-
I'm trying to plan my Wikimania travel, and wondering if anyone has had better luck than I had. Specifically:
I've found recently that I prefer, instead of multiple flight connections, the closest direct flight I can from SFO and then train. For example, there is no direct SFO -> Stockholm, but you can direct SFO -> Copenhagen and then a pleasant train directly from the Copenhagen airport to Stockholm.
So far I am... not having much luck on this for Katowice. Looks like the best I can do is direct flight to Frankfurt and then multiple (3+ changes) trains from Frankfurt to Katowice. I worry about connections because neither the German nor Polish train systems seem to have a great reputation for timeliness and I'd hate to miss connections.
Anyone had better luck, or alternative suggestions in a similar vein?
Thanks in advance, and look forward to seeing some of you there-
Luis

Hi everyone!
May's meetup was the busiest we've had so far! Thank you to everyone on here who joined, and our adding a geonotice (suggested by Tilman), adding the event to the [meta wiki calendar](https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Events_calendar) brought in new contributors. We've learned about taking Wikipedia offline, licensing when adding images to commons, and how the Universal Code of Conduct is developed and the conduct committee is facing in various countries.
Next meetup: [June 13, 6.30-8.30pm](https://bookwhen.com/sequoiafabrica/e/ev-s5ou-20240613183000) (please RSVP if you can, it helps with logistics), at 1736 18th street! Please note this is the second Thursday and not the third Thursday. This is because our host is also running a soldering class that night and it gets a bit crowded.
We've also proposed a new user group for the Bay Area, which you can join here:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Bay_Area_Wikipedians_User_Group
This will help us apply for funding to help run events, both internal and community facing. Please join if you feel so inclined (you just need to add your username at the bottom).

Hi everyone!
April's meetup was a lot of fun! Despite having to chase my toddler around I learned a lot about the Wiki chess community, we got a report from the AIxWikipedia hackathon, updates on automating Wikidata data entry and so many things about wasps and the local insects ecosystem.
Next one: [May 16, 6.30-8.30pm](https://bookwhen.com/sequoiafabrica/e/ev-sr2l-20240516183000) (please RSVP if you can, it helps with logistics), 1736 18th street! Thursday nights seem to work well. We'll have snacks, pizza and warm drinks. We had a speaker in mind but she cannot make it after all, so I'm hoping someone from the community will want to give a lightning talk - or we'll get more time to work on our things.
On Saturday June 8, [Nathan Schneider](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_Schneider) is coming for a talk about his new book on online governance at the Internet Archive. Some of you have expressed interest in meeting him (he's researched Wikipedia governance as part of his work on cooperative governance). He's suggested meeting earlier that day, if there's interest, or to attend the book talk. Let us know!

Hi everyone!
The Art+Feminism editathon went great, and as planned, we're going back to monthly meetups!
This month we're trying to move back closer to the [original Wikisalon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Bay_Area_WikiSalon) closing by inviting all of you to come and do a lightning talk about your favorite Wikipedia thing/tool/project/issue/controversies - you name it. Next month hopefully we'll have a speaker! Any recommendation, please let us know. Then there's time to talk, work on your project, collaborate, etc. There'll also be help for beginners get started if you want to invite people who are interested but not yet active contributors.
