Hi Carl, I put you call through our Ghanaian mailing list and have received some guys who are interested to do the translations to three or four Ghanaian languages.
I have recommended they get in touch with you directly, however I'm thinking of adding you to our mailing list so you can also bring to table suggestions etc.
Lemme know if that's cool with you. We can take you off anytime later.

Hi Rexford,
I'm sorry for the late reply, I've been away and for some reason this mail didn't go out from my usual account. I'd be very grateful for any contacts interested in working on the project, and we are also looking for community organizers for specific languages. Also, we are looking into various Ghanan languages, if you know of anyone who may be willing to translate the Ebola article for example. As for regional banner, do you mean on specific Wikipedias? And who do I in this case turn to?

Hi Carl,
Thanks for getting in touch and I'm glad the medical translation is in progress.
The need to get those medical articles into Afrikaans and Xhosa is very important.
I can help in trying to reach out to as many persons as possible who speak these languages.
I, for myself, I am a Ghanaian by birth and can't speak nor understand nor write any of the South African languages except for English.
However, I think I can be of assistance by putting up a call for persons to who can speak that language to help in the translation.
One area I would suggest you exhaust is also putting a regional banner on Wikipedia inviting persons who speak that language to volunteer.
I'll start right away in trying to reach out to many people as possible, and I hope I get persons who will be interested and be of assistance.
Thanks

Hi,
We spoke briefly at Wikimania, and I was delighted to hear that you may be able to put us in touch with Xhosa and Lhasa speaking people. We spoke about possibly reaching out to a number of medical students, and Victor was even able to tell me that one of the girls who participated in the video was studying medicine now. If we could work on spreading the translations of Ebola as fast as possible it could bring about an increase in the awareness of the project. Currently we are translating into a large number of languages, but have found no translators from any South African language.
To see the full extent of our current translation work on Ebola please go to: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:RTTS and look for group 7 or 8, where most of the African languages we are working on are grouped. If you are able to put us in contact with anyone willing to help in a language not on this list currently, we are very open to expanding it - even if this Wikipedia doesn't exist yet, we also have content on the incubator.

Would you mind doing the translation using the google translate toolkit?
Its one powerful tool to use. Besides, by so doing, you can help put dagbani on Google translate.
All you need to get started is here: https://*translate*.*google*.com/ *toolkit*
Unless Carl has recommended a specific translating tool to use, I'll recommend the google translate toolkit.

Have not tried the toolkit before, just checking it out right now is seems translations can only be done into a handful of international languages, maybe I need some clarification.
So basically we have two options open, to use the toolkit or the platform of Translators without borders.

Unless Carl has recommended a specific translating tool to use, I'll recommend the google translate toolkit.
I'm sure the anti google guys will be looking at me now, but hey, I've tried it and it works. Forget about WHO made it.
If you'll need help in setting the translate toolkit, I'm glad to help tomorrow.

Hi Carl,
Thanks for getting in touch and I'm glad the medical translation is in progress.
Thanks

We spoke about possibly reaching out to a number of medical students, and Victor was even able to tell me that one of the girls who participated in the video was studying medicine now. If we could work on spreading the translations of Ebola as fast as possible it could bring about an increase in the awareness of the project. Currently we are translating into a large number of languages, but have found no translators from any South African language.
To see the full extent of our current translation work on Ebola please go to: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:RTTS and look for group 7 or 8, where most of the African languages we are working on are grouped. If you are able to put us in contact with anyone willing to help in a language not on this list currently, we are very open to expanding it - even if this Wikipedia doesn’t exist yet, we also have content on the incubator.

I think the absence of Dagbani doesn't matter now, all you need is the collaborating feature of the toolkit. You'll see who is translating which part in real time. And the toolkit makes sure to match lines to keep the flow of translating simple and easier.
So I'll recommend you just choose *Ewe *which won't translate any of the text (It was in my case) then share with others and start translating to Dagbani.
Since Dagbani doesn't have ISO 639-1 and ISO 639-2 codes, but has ISO 639-3: dag http://www.sil.org/language/dag [1]. dag will be used.
As time goes on you will see it in toolkit and other places on the web. Then Wikimedia projects it might be say dag.wikipedia.org, etc
Regards.

I know https://www.transifex.com/ too but it gets to a point you might need to pay something to get some features. Not very sure but you can give that a spin too

I think the absence of Dagbani doesn't matter now, all you need is the collaborating feature of the toolkit. You'll see who is translating which part in real time. And the toolkit makes sure to match lines to keep the flow of translating simple and easier.
So I'll recommend you just choose Ewe which won't translate any of the text (It was in my case) then share with others and start translating to Dagbani.
Since Dagbani doesn't have ISO 639-1 and ISO 639-2 codes, but has ISO 639-3: dag [1]. dag will be used.
As time goes on you will see it in toolkit and other places on the web. Then Wikimedia projects it might be say dag.wikipedia.org, etc
Regards.

Hi Carl,
Thanks for getting in touch and I'm glad the medical translation is in progress.
Thanks

Hi,

Best, Carl Fredrik Sjöland Wikiproject Medicine
Reviving and reminding us all of this old thread but still important we help get as many medical translations as possible done.
Anyone in to help with two translation? We could use the Google translate toolkit for collaborative translation before moving the translated text to akan wikipedia.
Lemme know if interested in translating for twi.
I think Enock leads the team for ewe translation and sadat does so for dagbani and felix for Ga?
Please confirm you can handle translations jobs and if anyone is interested in the specific language, we might direct them your way.

Thanks On Aug 22, 2014 11:13 AM, "Carl Fredrik Sjöland" cfsjoland@icloud.com wrote:
Hi Rexford,
I'm sorry for the late reply, I've been away and for some reason this mail didn't go out from my usual account.
Best, Carl Fredrik Sjöland

Hi Carl,
Thanks for getting in touch and I'm glad the medical translation is in progress.
Thanks
