Hello Everyone,
Wiki Loves Earth Ghana 2014 will end on June 30. Myself and the WLE Ghana team will like to thank you for all that you've put into this, We will like to once again invite you to help us finish hard.
So far 714 https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Campaign:wle-gh photos have been uploaded.
Thanks.

Great job done enock. Definitely a good job. I'm impressed. Way much better than the 2012 WLM.
Do you think we can take the WLM 2014 head-on this time? We missed it last year, with your support, and the WLE team, I think we can make that happen this year too.
If not WLM, at least it can be Wiki Loves Food (@ato Waakye will be in there, don't worry) or something else, it doesn't necessarily have to be monuments.
Thanks for help!

Ooo! I forgot to tweet that Wiki Indaba participants enjoyed *Sobolo* in an African Restaurant. Felix and myself was like yeah! Ato's thing.
Welcome Rex.
I don't think we can go for WLM. Wiki Loves Africa is about foods right? Then Waakye, Sobolo, Fufu, Banku et all are there.
Regards.

But I think running three wiki Loves this year will be great, if not the first in africa.
I can help on the Wiki Loves Monuments or something other than monuments this year.

Hi all,
Looking at the Wikipedia page for Alhaji Grunshi https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alhaji_Grunshi I was wondering whether there are any sources giving more biographical information about the man himself.
As he was the first soldier in British service to fire a shot in the First World War on 7 August 1914, the page might attract some attention on the 100th anniversary.
Also the anniversary might yeild some more sources of information about him.
all the best
Fabian User:Leutha
Thanks for sharing.
Interesting read there. Unfortunately, no details of where he was born or the name of the family was given. It would have been possible to go to the village in which he came from or something or that sort to gather more details about him.
Will look around to see if we can get clues as to where he actually came from in Ghana.

Giving his name "Grunshi" he must have come from somewhere in the Upper East Region of Ghana, not sure which village or town exactly.

Hi,
I get the impression he was recruited into the Gold Coast Constabulary, renamed the Gold Coast Regimen https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghana_Regiment t in 1901.
He was clearly a Muslim who had been to Mecca http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/alhaji .
Check Keta https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keta , about the Hausa https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hausa_people Constabulary based there.
He may have originated in Nigeria?
Interesting that the first person to fire a shot for the British in the First World War was a Muslim!
Could make a good DYK?

Interesting read there. Unfortunately, no details of where he was born or the name of the family was given. It would have been possible to go to the village in which he came from or something or that sort to gather more details about him.
Will look around to see if we can get clues as to where he actually came from in Ghana.

Hi all,
Looking at the Wikipedia page for Alhaji Grunshi https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alhaji_Grunshi I was wondering whether there are any sources giving more biographical information about the man himself.
As he was the first soldier in British service to fire a shot in the First World War on 7 August 1914, the page might attract some attention on the 100th anniversary.
Also the anniversary might yeild some more sources of information about him.

Hahaha, it can really be a dyk indeed. Wouldn't be a favorite for our Muslim friends, but it's informative so worth sharing. Lol
Thanks for bringing these points out too.

Indeed not much is know about him, not even his name is known. "Ahaji" is a title and "Grunshi" (which is not a Hausa name) might have been derived from his background, the Grunshi people.
