Giving his name "Grunshi" he must have come from somewhere in the Upper East Region of Ghana, not sure which village or town exactly.

Interesting read there. Unfortunately, no details of where he was born or the name of the family was given. It would have been possible to go to the village in which he came from or something or that sort to gather more details about him.

Will look around to see if we can get clues as to where he actually came from in Ghana.

Looking at the Wikipedia page for Alhaji Grunshi I was wondering whether there are any sources giving more biographical information about the man himself.
 
As he was the first soldier in British service to fire a shot in the First World War on 7 August 1914, the page might attract some attention on the 100th anniversary.
 
Also the anniversary might yeild some more sources of information about him.
