Hello guys,
Edits
A new member Raphael Berchie recruited at BarCamp Accra has about 85 edits now on Wikipedia. I think he has done very well judging from the average edits we have as a group.
Enock has 195 edits
Sandister (me) has 243 edits
Rexford has 703 edits.
If I have failed to acknowledge anyone with over 50 edits and has edited in the last two months, please draw my attention.
But boys, know that I will not let you pass me, I am aiming at 500 edits this week :D If you had worked this hard earlier like we would all be heading for HongKong this August.
Well done guys now we have 4 active editors and about 16 more to comfortably continue our bid for chaptership.
Cookbook
As part of the outreach, we have to gather photos for Cookbook which features very little Ghanaian food: https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Cookbook:Table_of_Contents. The idea is to start a social media campaign to get people to take photos of their food and donate them to Wikimedia commons via the Wikimedia Commons app or website.
Wiki Loves Monuments
This September the world's biggest photo contest is coming on. Ghana gets to be a part if we organise properly and we can even get funding if our activities will require that. As usual, social media will help us greatly to gather people to participate.
I am inviting every one to an online meeting on Facebook since the majority of us are there, and internet cost and reliability will not permit us all a G+ hangout.
RSVP to join the group chat here https://www.facebook.com/events/271942942949777/But please note that you will have to join our Wikipedia group on Facebook to be able join the group chat so join the group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/243782009088573/
Let me know if the meeting date is good for you so we can agree on a time.
Regards,
Sandister Tei

Subject: [Wikimania-l] Selection of winning bid for Wikimania 2014: London
To: "Wikimania general list (open subscription)" <
wikimania-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>, "wikimedia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org" <

Dear Wikimedians,
On behalf of the Wikimania 2014 selection Jury, after review and
evaluation of the two final bids, we have awarded the conference to
London. Congratulations to the London team, and to the Arusha team who
also put forward a solid effort.
We were concerned this year to see that both bidding teams put forward
proposals which were costly and complicated, in contrast to the
Wikimania tradition. The Jury briefly considered re-opening the bid
for other teams, and asked both bids to present a simpler core budget
and lower-cost options for attendees.
The London team took our comments to heart and decreased their core
budget to 20% of their initial proposal, and have committed to finding
ways to reduce the cost for community attendees.
We encourage future bidding teams to not give up their dreams, to keep
aiming for the stars, but at the same time, to not forget the spirit
of Wikimedia: a volunteer movement that makes creative use of limited
resources. We look forward to the proposed Wikimania Committee setting
out clearer guidelines on these principles.
The process to bid for hosting Wikimania requires a substantial time
investment, and we thank both candidate teams for their submissions
and hard work.
Yours,
James Forrester

Betreff: [Wikimedia-l] ITU Telecom Young Innovators Competition: looking
for solutions that inspire local content creation
An: <wikimedia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
TU Telecom Young Innovators Competition has started a new challenge on
preserving diversity of digital content. We are calling for concept papers
or start-ups from all around the world, started by young women and men (age
18-26) who work to inspire the creation of local content in a less
frequently used on the Internet language. We recognize the dis-balance of
digital content available and are devoted to help diversify the content by
supporting talented young entrepreneurs who have projects in this field. We
accept concept papers or start-ups (already up and running and in need of
further help to scale up). We offer up to USD 10 000 of seed funding to the
best 10 submissions, and we really hope that some of them will be for our
challenge on digital content.

I was thinking wiki loves monuments this year can also be a success. I
checked the site where all the monuments for last hear were enlisted. I
found some not to have covered in the photo event. Perhaps we can hunt for
those photos this year.
We're pinning down all monuments in Ghana this year hopefully.
