Hello guys,
I was at the Barcamp Koforidua this year. I was part of a breakout session
where Wikimedia world was discussed.
How many people joined the session? About 8.
How many people were recruited? None. Did I take anyone's contact? No. Did
anyone show enthusiasm to join? Not that I noticed.
Did Wikimedia/Wikipedia make sense to them? I think so. When one lecturer
at ANUniversity came to appreciate the structure of Wikimedia and Wikipedia
and why everything happens the way it does, everything I guess made more
sense to him.
At the educational level, how people see Wikipedia and it's related project
sites is very different and negative. If and should that be fixed, I'm sure
the effects will bubble down to many in schools.
Will those who joined the breakout session become editors? I don't know.
Will they get in touch to learn more? I don't know. Did they take something
useful about Wikimedia home? Yes, absolutely. I gave Wiki-related handouts
I received from Wikimedia UK to some in attendance.
A lecturer at Koforidua Poly plans to get in touch later in the course this
week to further discuss if they could do something Wikipedia Education
Program related. Will update this thread with more.
Pictures of the event:

Are the pictures on Wikimedia Commons at the moment? Mine aren't, will
upload in the course of this week.
I hope to be at the Accra Barcamp as well, then with a combined power from
all the Wikimedia guys in Accra, we could push the Wikimedia word more.
Did I do a good job at Barcamp Koforidua 2016? I don't know.

Hello,
News just broke that 13 candidates have been disqualified from the
presidential race, leaving 4.
I have put the list on our election project page but we need to link them
to their Wikipedia articles or turn them into red links so we can create
pages for them.
Visit the page
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Election_2016_Project/Editing_tas…>
to
help with the linking them to their Wikipedia pages.
Regards,

Subject: [African Wikimedians] Africa Destubathon
To: Mailing list for African Wikimedians <
african-wikimedians(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hello gals and guys
In case you missed it, I wanted to inform you of the forthcoming Africa
Destubathon
What ?
The idea is simple: blast away as many of our 37,000 + Africa stubs as
possible! There will hopefully be a prize to the editor who fleshes out the
most stubs from every country of Africa.
All that is required for this is basic article expansions and improvements.
To "destub" an article all you have to do is ensure it's minimum 1.5 kb
(1500 characters) readable prose in total
The existing text and text you add is expected to all be verifiable and
adequately sourced to reliable sources, with the expected
Wikipedia:Citations drawn up. Whoever "destubs" the most articles for a
given country wins a prize, and whoever wins the most "destubs" for the
most countries will be crowned the overall winner.
Where ?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Africa/
The_Africa_Destubathon
When
Starting Oct 15
Anything special ?
There will be special prizes for whoever destub the more African Women
articles
*We need your help NOW*
Advices (on the talk page) and endorsement (on the grant page) are welcome *(if
you feel like it is a good idea of course)*

That is quite a lot! Interesting and partly related, I learnt that in
Israel heritage is rooted and therefore financed with tourism. At the
University as well it is called tourism but a main topic is heritage. I
wonder if asaf could comment a little bit more?

In short, over 700 images were uploaded in this year's WLM 2016 in Ghana.
Kudos to Felix and team who led the event. It is great to see many images.
Not all of them might be strictly monumental, but they're great shots and
tell a story relating to the monuments we have here in Ghana.

Big thanks to all who took part in this year's event! From 100 in the first
event to 700+ this year is a milestone!
