Colleagues,
the final arrangement is, Citi wants to go beyond the comfort of a
telephone interview to appearance in their studios. The following opinions
are what I have as a member,* not a final say*. Everyone else's is welcome.
1. A physical appearance is not in my league. Members currently in Ghana
should decide for themselves if any one is in the geographical location and
time convenience position to attend this interview.
2. Whoever wants to go, *Rex*, kindly ask Asaf if we have the permission to
fund transport. You know the money we have currently is unallocated to
transport outside a proposed outreach. They are likely to agree but at
least we should be humble enough to ask them.
3. Whoever chooses to appear at Citi please, if you are not an active
editor and you don't know/understand anything pertaining, prepare, ask
questions.
4. If *we can't make it to Citi*, I will request a telephone interview
instead.
*Please try and answer by night time.*
In other news, we have pending community matters. Please get
involved<https://docs.google.com/document/d/15gkkYDS8qcx6FwPhKXXnnYCPU0ME7P8E-LJKuZq…>

Dear Wiki Loves Monuments volunteers,
We are happy to announce the launch of Wiki Loves Sea Turtle Monuments!
A brand new global project surrounding the majestic sea turtles has been
launched on Wikimedia Commons! MEDASSET (The Mediterranean Association
to Save the Sea Turtles) has set up the foundation for what we aim to be
an encyclopedic reference of sea turtle related monuments from around
the world.
Sea turtles are found in all corners of the Earth, having roamed the
world's oceans for 100 million years. Their significance as a symbol has
been commemorated by various cultures all throughout history and it will
be essential to our cause to document their emblematic status through
photographs; it will help us raise awareness about the dangers they face
because of human activity.
We were inspired by "Wiki loves monuments" and are appealing to you, the
volunteers from around the world that made Wiki Loves Monuments the most
successful photography competition in the world! Please help our project
succeed and do your part in helping our natural heritage survive!
What can you do?
MEDASSET is a non profit environmental organisation working since 1988
to protect sea turtles in the Mediterranean. This is our first project
which reaches out to Wikimedians and we need your help.
Perhaps through Wiki Loves Monuments images of sea turtle monuments have
already been uploaded onto Wikimedia commons. Can you help us locate
them? Just add the Category (Sea Turtle Monuments) to images depicting
sea turtles!
Please take a moment and visit seaturtlemonuments.medasset.org and also
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Sea_Turtle_Monuments to read
more about Wiki Loves Sea Turtle Monuments and look at the images
collected so far.
Our project aims at establishing a public domain encyclopedic reference
for sea turtle related outdoor monuments which will contribute to open
and free knowledge. Please help us make this possible!
If you have other recommendations or ideas for us, we are looking
forward to receiving your feedback. Your experience is valuable to us!
With very best wishes for a Happy New Year,
Jenny Ioannou

*DON'T TWEET OR POST IT YET. TOMORROW MORNING WE CAN PUBLICIZE IT ALL WE
WANT.*
I will not put any phone numbers under our PR.
Any verbal communications will be made by someone ready to speak. At least
I have learnt from my tutors here that unannounced phone interviews give
people the opportunity to goof.
For emails, you can contemplate what to say before you type so an email
address is all I will leave there.
For the Citi breakfast show, once confirmed whoever will speak will have
time to think before appearing on the show.
Now, I volunteer to speak on the show. If they can't speak to an overseas
person, I suggest Enock. Anyone who disagrees to this PLEASE voice out.

The Citi guys are on the PR looking at it. One of them is in Cardiff here
with me in the same course I study. I will work with him here.
Whether or not the interview pushes through, we have an edit marathon on
our hands for the Ghana article. This is even more important as our duty
than an interview.
Discussions about that may start
here<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MTPNwuiADY2xemb9XcLeEZdMit_NULbYBu1nWiO…>
.
What can we do? How can we publicise the clean up exercise? Who do we
invite? The ministers themselves?

Sandister Tei

Hi everyone,
My name is Josh. I'm from the Peace Corps. I might be able to assist you
all in filming the interview. We own a few high-end cameras,
microphones, etc in Ghana. Here is a small sample of our work:
http://www.youtube.com/user/PCAVGhana
Also I used to do PR releases in one of my old companies. Let me know if
you need any input from me. I saw a few grammatical/spelling errors in
the current version but I'm sure they could be fixed.
Hope to hear from you all soon!

PLANNING WIKIMEDIA GHANA RESPONDS TO GOVERNMENT’S STATEMENT ABOUT WIKIPEDIA
This is in response to a recent publication by
citifmonline.com<http://www.citifmonline.com/index.php?id=1.1657562>on
January 10th, 2014 about the Government of Ghana struggling to edit
information on the Wikipedia page for Ghana.
Planning Wikimedia Ghana <http://planningwikimediaghana.blogspot.com/> as a
volunteer group has been working for almost 3 years to encourage the use
and contribution of Ghanaian content to Wikipedia. We also help other
global editors to update content and clean-up inadequate information about
Ghanaian topics.

Ayariga said: “It came to our attention indeed and my colleagues have tried

Wikipedia is a wiki, meaning content is written by any volunteer,
(collaboratively) with others.
While writing, important basic rules apply:
1. RS, reliable sources, see
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Identifying_reliable_sources
2. NPOV, meaning neutral point of view, see
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view
3. COI, conflict of interest editing,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest
Where these rules are not applied by an editor, other editors and
administrators do their best to correct that edit when notified.
The information on Ghana's article about corruption has been sourced
unfortunately. Unless the credibility of the source is challenged or an
update about “economic corruption and economic crime” in Ghana appears, it
will remain. However the language was somewhat generalised and one sided.
As Ghanaian Wikipedians, we have looked into the matter and the rules that
apply.
Currently, Wikipedia has put the article under some protection from
unconfirmed users.
We would like to point out again that as WIkipedia is a wiki "permanent
arrangements" cannot be made to keep information static. But Planning
Wikimedia Ghana will organise an editing session to clean up the article
and also choose a member of our community to monitor the article for a
untruthful and biased information.
The government can move to support this effort.

there and that is one of the objectives of Planning Wikimedia Ghana has.

So I am on the PR. Putting it in shape.
I just want to be thorough so we don't say anything inadequate. We are not
the WMF spokespeople, we are just Wikimedians.
Working on. Will send link when ready.
