Although the Thank you messages on the talk pages are sent, we hitted a bug (49749) and those messages didn't trigger email notification. We will try to fix that.
While we work on that, we still miss many translations of that message, so this delay allows you to translate and let some hundreds of users to be thanked on their mother tongue.
There are still missing translations to Russian, German, Ukranian, Hebrew, Chinese, Czech, Swedish, Armenian, Serbian, Slovak, Estonian, Norwegian, Luxembourgish, Belarusian, Tamil, Portuguese, Esperandto, Afrikaans…

Thai translation is done a moment ago.
I look back at my edit history and found that it took only 14 mins. If you have that time to spare, please give it a try!

Dear all,
In addition, the survey reminder message should also be translated: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:WLM_2013_survey_thank_you
So far, the following languages have been done: català | Deutsch | Deutsch (Sie-Form) | English | español | magyar | Nederlands | svenska
Please make sure that your language has been translated (the text is rather short)! The reminder message may also be a chance to get things right with the e-mail notification!
Thanks for your effort!
Best regards, Beat

I am sorry, is this the message to thank a person for filling the survey or to remind him to fill it? It shouldn't do both, because if he has already filled it, there is no need to remind. And if he hasn't filled it, there is no reason to thank him for filling it.
Or am I silly and missing something?

We don't know if they filled it or not, so we send them a message thanking the filling if they did, and "hey, if you are in the 80% which didn't fill out the survey, remember you can still do it".
Maybe then it should be the other way around? "Hey, we are reminding you to take the survey! In case you have already filled it, carry along, thank you!" Or sth. Just my opinion.

It took ~4-5 mins for this short template to be translated into Thai.
This is the first year for us. I just translate all messages if I can.
However, I feel that Teele's point is valid. The 1st message is a must. But how do you prove the effectiveness of the 2nd? It may add confusion or treated as spam? Try to put yourself in the participants' shoes, (1) there is no message to notify them of the competition result. (2) Yet, there are two follow-up messages getting into their mailbox after they are done with the contest.

You are right; in case the winners of the international contest are known by the time we send out the reminder message, we may as well add a line at the end of the message. So far, we haven't considered this as we expected to send out the survey well before December.

Hi Teele,
We decided to assume the positive case and to add a gentle reminder. I think it is appropriate in tone for a situation where we actually ask people a favor.
Cheers, Beat

Ok, maybe it is just me or a cultural thing or whatever. To me it looks weird if it starts with thanking me for doing sth that I haven't done.
Also I got an English lesson here. It's 'carry on', not 'carry along' what I used. Something new every day :) Thank you! And carry on!
Cheers,
Beat

Multichill already offered to use his bot, but it would be nice to let other bots do something too sometimes. ;-) The question about direct emailing is that we don't yet know if there is a way to send the message in the correct language: Samat, do you have idea how to solve this problem, or can you spend some time investigating it?

As I don't know which language used by the user (as MediaWiki surface), I would propose to use the language for which country's WLM he/she uploaded (most of the) photos. And at the end we can offer a link for other languages (in English).

@Platonides / Nemo:
What are the chances that the bug you hit when sending out the invitation for the survey will be avoided when sending out the reminder? – I guess the easiest solution would be to post the reminder message to the talk pages in a way that an e-mail notification is triggered. Would this be possible?

If I understand the bug, the emails will be send out by MediaWiki if the bot mark its edits as not-a-minor edit. It is possible.

Ok, so I think we could just primarily rely on the reminder message.
Even if things had gone as they were meant to, there would always be the problem that people who don’t have a look at their discussion page after receiving their first e-mail notification won’t get an e-mail notification for the reminder. – If I get it right, MediaWiki wouldn’t send out a second e-mail notification anyways if people never had a look at their discussion page in the meanwhile.
So, sending them one e-mail notification for the survey is probably as good as we can get in most cases if we post the messages on people’s discussion pages.
