Dear all,
a doubt:
is Instagram compatible with Creative Commons?
Can I upload *my* Instagram pics on Commons (so could it be used for WLM)?
Please consider that I'm not suggesting Instagram pics are good for WLM
(they are filtered and all, probably not very suitable for illustrating
monuments on Wikipedia)
but is a legal matter.
Aubrey
Dear all,
If there is sufficient interest from the community, I will propose a workshop on the WLM participants' survey and the insights we can gather from it.
I think it is important that as many people involved in the organization of WLM 2012 and WLM 2013 as possible take part in the workshop, so we can get some collective sense making going.
So please sign up on the proposal page if you are interested:
https://wikimania2014.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submissions/What_can_we_learn_from…
It would certainly also be possible to present the results from the organizers' survey during the same workshop (possibly asking for a bit more time). Please let me know if that would be an option.
Concerning the participants' survey in 2014, we discussed with John Andersson about having one survey for all photo contests during this year.
Please let me know what you think. - Whether a participants' survey will be carried out this year at all, will probably also depend on the interest among WLM organizers. It's a lot of work; so I would suggest doing it only if there is a concrete demand for it. Any feedback is appreciated.
Kind regards,
Beat

Hi everyone,
I'm on the Multimedia team at the WMF, and we were wondering if there are
specific bugfixes or critical features that would be needed in preparation
for WLM.
Something I know of is the cached template issue in UploadWizard campaign
banners: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=64685 which I would
like to get fixed before WLM. If there's anything else that's critical,
please let us know, it will help us prioritize our workload.
vHi all,
[TL;DR]
we are changing this list [wikilovemonuments-l] policy from moderation
to rejection for messages from non-members of the list.
[/TL;DR]
This list, which is moderated by Lodewijk and myself, gets every day a
huge amount of spam and undesired messages, circa 20 messages per
hour. We have tried in the last months to implement some filters to
solve the problem with poor results.
Since it is impossible for us to keep moderating this huge quantity of
messages we have decided to change the policy of the list so that
messages sent by non members will be automatically rejected. At the
moment the messages are accumulated in the moderation queue.
Members of this list (whose subscription and archives are - and will
remain - open) should not experience any difference. Non-members of
the list sending messages here will need to sign up to the list before
being able to post.
Cheers,
Cristian
Dear Wiki Loves Monuments worldwide community,
We here in the United States have expanded the photo contest this year into
a three-month "Summer of Monuments". Our special goal is outreach in the
Southern U.S. states which currently have fewer historic places represented
on Wikimedia Commons. There are some prizes for the best photographs, and
for the institution that contributes the best collection.
Individual photographers from around the country are excited about Summer
of Monuments and have already contributed several hundred photos. You can see
many of them on Commons
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Images_from_Wikipedia_Summer_of…>.
So far we've met with enthusiastic responses from libraries, archives,
historical societies, and historical preservation groups in the South. We
are waiting to see what kind of collections can actually be uploaded, and
hoping that this project serves as a springboard for larger institutional
donations.
We have a page on Wikimedia Commons
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Summer_of_Monuments_2014> which
can also be accessed from SummerOfMonuments.org. Please let me know your
thoughts, comments, concerns, questions, suggestions, or exclamations about
the project.
All the best,
Leo Zimmermann
