Hello all,
I’m Abhinav currently contributing on Montage as part of Google Summer of
Code. I’ve proposed a new feature on adding a “compare image” mode to let
jurors be able to do a 1:1 comparison of chosen images if they require.
I’ve created a detailed issue with screenshots, would love suggestions or
feedback for whether this feature would be helpful or requires any add ons.
This feature focuses on improving the evaluation experience through
comparison of images for the juror.

Thanks again!

Dear Wiki Loves Monuments Organisers,
As preparations for Wiki Loves Monuments 2026 continue, we would like to
remind organisers planning to apply for Wikimedia Rapid Grants that Cycle 1
is the most recommended timeline to ensure funds are received ahead of the
competition period.
Rapid Grant Cycle 1 Timeline
-
Submission deadline: July 1, 2026
-
Review period: July 2 – July 29, 2026
-
Compliance check & decision announcement: July 30 – August 12, 2026
-
Grant processing & payment: August 12 - August 26, 2026
-
Earliest project start date: August 31, 2026
Organisers are encouraged to review the timeline
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid#Timeline> carefully
and begin planning early.
For organisers who may not be able to access Rapid Grants or do not have
Wiki Loves Monuments funding included in their Annual Plan, the Wiki Loves
Monuments International Team also provides Micro-Grant
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2026/Organi…>
support ranging from 300-500 USD to support local organising efforts.
In addition, as part of preparations for WLM 2026, the International Team
is planning an upcoming Office Hour session where organisers can ask
questions, seek clarification, and discuss concerns related to the
competition, funding, and campaign planning.
Please stay tuned for the Office Hour call details and participation
information.
We look forward to another successful edition of Wiki Loves Monuments with
communities around the world.
Best regards,
Lucy Iwuala

Hello all,
I am writing this to share an exciting update with you all.
This year, as part of Wikimedia Foundation's participation in Google Summer
of Code 2026 <https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/>, Montage was one of the
community projects that got a slot for participation (T415578
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T415578>; T421543
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T421543>). After reviewing several
applications and interacting with the contributors, we are excited to
welcome Abhinav Mohandas (cc'ed) onboard as GSoC contributor to Montage
this summer.
During the next 3-4 months, Abhinav will be working on various fixes and
feature improvements on Montage. Please note that he will be spending the
next few weeks getting on board and familiar with the tool, codebase etc.
*For users of the Montage tool (organizers of jury rounds, jurors etc.)*
- In the meantime, we encourage all the users of the Montage tool
(organizers of jury rounds, jurors etc.) to share your input that will help
us prioritize work during the contribution period.
- If you have any recurring challenges/errors with the tool or would
like to see new features, please share your input using the Issues on
GitHub: https://github.com/hatnote/montage/issues
- As a first step, please check if there is an existing issue reported
by someone else, in which case you upvote using an emoji on the same issue
or leave a comment.
- Note: We may not get through all the issues during the contribution
period, however your input would be helpful in prioritizing the issues as
we move forward.
Please join me in welcoming Abhinav, and let us know if you have any
questions.
Best,
Krishna Chaitanya V / User:KCVelaga

Dear organisers!
Wiki Loves Monuments 2025 is approaching!
In less than a month the first group of countries is going to start.
If you are organising WLM this year, please make sure *now* that your
country is in the list of countries to avoid problems and delays:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2025/Partic…
(This has been forgotten before, please avoid that mistake! )
(A few tips: don't wait to check/add until you notice there is no
banner/uploading, don't wait until it is 10 minutes before midnight that
you want to start, or at the last day before, don't think it will start in
October so you have time, don't think that your colleague organiser has
added your country, just check/add it now on the page, it avoids a lot of
issues! Having your country added in the list of countries is the 1st
requirement the international team has set. If you are late with adding,
please contact me!)
When you have added your country/checked for it: thank you!
Spoiler: The 2nd requirement is that you have a landing page.
Countries starting in September: your landing page needs to be ready at the
latest on 29 August!
Countries starting in October: your landing page needs to be ready at the
latest on 27 September!
When not ready on these days, the contest may get delayed or cancelled.
PS: You don't have to wait until the last day to have your landing page
ready, you may already have it (close to) ready this week!
There is a Telegram group called Wikilovesmonuments where you as organisers
are welcome to come!
- For asking questions, reporting issues and getting help.
- For getting inspiration what you can do.
- For helping others with questions.
- For seeing last minute notifications.
- For just for hanging out to see how it is going.
- For seeing how the event starts/end at the beginning and end of the
months.
If you have an urgent issue regarding the special upload wizard or with the
banner, contact me personally on Telegram for the fastest response. A bit
more slow: write something on my Commons talk page
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Romaine> or write somewhere
else and ping me. The slowest will be sending an e-mail.
If you are unsure if something is in order or even urgent, don't hesitate
and just contact me!
Don't forget: have fun! 😀
