Dear all,
a doubt:
is Instagram compatible with Creative Commons?
Can I upload *my* Instagram pics on Commons (so could it be used for WLM)?
Please consider that I'm not suggesting Instagram pics are good for WLM
(they are filtered and all, probably not very suitable for illustrating
monuments on Wikipedia)
but is a legal matter.
Aubrey
A lot of food for thought at
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Metrics_and_activities_meetings/Quarterly_r…>.
Particularly interesting IMHO the parts on app uploads to Commons
(started a month ago), WLM app (only 3000 uploads but lots of
experience), watchlist on mobile successful for recruitment («Currently,
mobile is the only vector for signup that has substantially changed to
bring more people in»[1]) and whether that's the right focus.

Hi Pradeep,
Have you been successful identifying any list(s) of artworks? If you don't find a national list you might be able to find a regional or municipal list that you could use instead this year - to try out the concept. Most countries, sadly, seem to lack a national database of artworks.
Kind regards,
John

hi,
Continuing the conversation here.
A few people in India have expressed interest in doing WLPA. I am looking for a listing of public art in India. Any help in this regard would be of help.
warm regards,
Pradeep Mohandas

Hi Pradeep,
I don't know anyone in the GLAM sector in India so I can't really give you any insights. However, I do have a few suggestions where you could ask to find someone who knows more:
* Perhaps the GLAMs in India that you have been in contact with before could be of assistance?
* It might be an idea to post a question on WikiProject Visual Arts. There are a lot of great people hanging around there. :)
* Someone on the Cultural partners mailing list might know what Indian organizations to contact.
Also, perhaps we should move the discussion about Wikimedia India's participation to Wiki Loves Public Art's mailing list instead: wikilovespublicart at lists.wikimedia.org? There might be some knowledgeable people there that might be able to help.
Cheers,
John

Hi John,
I apologise if this is seen as going off-topic for this list.
One of the principal problem that we are trying to address vis-a-vis public art in India is the lack of a central repository of lists of such a work.
For WLM, we had such a list provided by the Archaeological Survey of India, which defined monuments in India. I have, thus far not seen any similar definition or institution for public art in India.
However, we are trying to solve this issue by talking to art institutions in general and certain organisations that do public art performance in India like The Wall Project, Khoj International.
At this level, I guess it would help if we can get contacts or introductions to people whom we can speak to in India, in this regard.
Thanks,
Pradeep Mohandas,

Hi Niraj,
Thank you kindly for your offer!
This initiative is not only for European Chapters and Wikimedia India is more than welcome to participate if you would like to organize the contest in India! It would be great if you would!
As Wikimedia Sweden's involvement is financed by Europeana any direct financial support (from our project budget) can only be given to European Chapters (e.g. for my work time or for costs of hosting websites etc.). However, I would be happy to assist Wikimedia India with my volunteer hat on if there is something that you are wondering about! :)
Cheers,
John

Hey,
Great Initiative and all the best wishes for the same.
Thanks to Noopur for sharing.
Sadly its only for Chapters in European Union!
But would be glad to help in any way possible.

Hello,
WMNL was recently approached for helping start a photo contest for
WWII monuments. Based on this
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Freedom_of_Panorama_in_Europe_NC.svg
We assumed that these photographs could be used on Wikipedia, but the
recent discussions about the DMCA takedown notice for this
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Houseball_(Oldenburg_and_van_Bru…
indicate that FOP in Europe is not really FOP.
To be careful, we have decided to cancel the photo contest idea,
though people are of course terribly disappointed about this.
Does anyone know the status of this discussion? Of course, WLM has
brought in several thousand of these "possibly-not-FOP" sculptures, as
they are often WLM monuments themselves, or are situated directly in
front of buildings that are WLM monuments.
Thanks in advance for any info you have - we need a short and sweet
way to inform the WWII monument committee and WMNL volunteers why we
are cancelling.
Jane
Hello.
I am Gheorghe A. Iordachi, active user and administrator on Romanian Wikipedia. http://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utilizator:Gik%C3%BC / http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Gik%C3%BC
I'd like to organize Wikipedia Loves Monuments in the Republic of Moldova. This is the first time I'm ever doing something for wikipedia outside of site itself. Guys from WLM Romania directed me to you, they said I can get here first directions.
Agency for Inspection and Rebuilding of Monuments from Moldova (http://airmc.wordpress.com/) is interested in spreading the info in Moldova, and are willing to organize the contest themselves.
So what do I start with? I got the monuments list in a parseable format (http://data.gov.md/raw/952) and I have the Romanian wikipedians' word - they can help me with sharing their experience.
Looking forward to a successful collaboration.
Thank you.
Gheorghe A. Iordachi
