Dear all,
a doubt:
is Instagram compatible with Creative Commons?
Can I upload *my* Instagram pics on Commons (so could it be used for WLM)?
Please consider that I'm not suggesting Instagram pics are good for WLM
(they are filtered and all, probably not very suitable for illustrating
monuments on Wikipedia)
but is a legal matter.
Aubrey
Hi all,
Hope you are all safe and well. After having finalized our plans for WLM
integration into the Commons app based on community feedback (
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Mobile_app/WLM , which was
posted to this mailing list a couple of months ago), we have started work
on implementation.
We have run into a bit of an issue, however, that we are hoping to get help
with. The initial plan (based on the discussion at
https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikilovesmonuments/2020-July/009263.h…
and at the abovementioned wiki page) was to use Wikidata as our data
source, displaying all Wikidata items with the identifier property of P2186
(Wiki Loves Monuments ID) on our map.
However we have now found out that some countries don't use P2186 at all.
Someone kindly linked
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_WLM/Status#Table to me,
and based on that it seems that there is a rather large variety of
identifiers that different countries use.
Realistically speaking, it would be really difficult for us to account for
every possible identifier that every country uses, and it would also make
stability and maintenance much more tricky. We can try, but it would be
risky and tedious.
On the other hand, it was suggested to me that if there is WLM community
consensus that P2186 should be used as a universal identifier, countries
might be willing to adopt P2186 for the sake of harmonization.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Many thanks.
Best regards,

Hello everyone,
The Wiki Loves Monuments International Team would like to invite you to an
office hour on 16 April @ 3 pm UTC. This hour is open to anyone interested
in Wiki Loves Monuments, including past and future national organizers. We
are starting to experiment with hosting an office hour every month,
starting this month. The idea is to create a space to have more
conversations about the campaign with national organizers and have their
inputs. We will have a topic to discuss each month, which will be decided
from time to time. We can also talk about other related stuff if we have
time left.
For this month, we would like to discuss deciding the timeline for 2021's
competition. Due to the pandemic, last year, organizers had the option to
choose any 30 days between September and November, as opposed just
September. Though many organizers welcomed this move and it helped many
countries participating for the first time to organize the competition, it
has some logistical challenges and disadvantages. As the pandemic hasn't
receded yet, we anticipate national organizers will have similar challenges
as last year. As deciding the timeline is the one of the first steps to
start planning, we would like to have inputs on this. We will start off the
conversation based on the inputs we received regarding this from the
surveys we conducted last year.
The meeting details are as follows:
- April 16 @ 3 pm UTC (https://zonestamp.toolforge.org/1618585256)

We hope that you are able to join us, and we look forward to the discussion.

Hi Ciell + Mohammad -
Thank you for sharing these links.
I'm wondering why the honorable mentions were only announced on social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) and not also announced on the WLM blog and/or Commons. It's really great to get the word out to a wider audience but, in my opinion, we should also make sure that we keep fuller records of WM activities within the wikiverse itself.
As social media platforms are arguably transient (and certainly not as open as Commons) it would be good to have the honorable mentions captured as part of the international contest results in a way that's easy to access in WLM natural environment, so to speak. I'd gladly contribute to this (on Commons) if others agree or the WLM international team don't have the capacity to handle this without input from the community.
For the record: I've also posted this message on the WLM 2020 winners talk page on Commons.
Thanks again and best wishes,
Toni
