Hi, the Wikimedia Affiliations Committee has approved MediaWiki Group San Francisco. Yay! :)
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Groups/San_Francisco
We can have a toast this Thursday at the Wikipedia Engineering Meetup: http://www.meetup.com/Wikipedia-Engineering-Meetup/
Two priorities I want to push for this group:
* Promote technical efforts from the Wikimedia Foundation and 3rd parties in the Bay Area, in an integrated way.
* Get another promoter not working at the WMF.
Any volunteers?
What does a promoter have to do?

Strictly speaking the promoters are the ones making sure the link with the MediaWiki and Wikimedia communities is kept. For instance, they should be subscribed to wikitech-l mailing list and make sure the group wiki page is up to date.
If the Wikimedia Affiliations Committee or someone want to contact the group they would contact the promoters.
Apart from that, they are group contributors just like anybody else.
