Dear Bay Area Wikimedians:
The Bay Area Wiki Salon is excited to co-host another Wiki-a-thon (edit/upload-a-thon) at the Prelinger Library this month, and you are all invited to join us on August 25!
The Prelinger Library is an appropriation-friendly collection 19th and 20th century historical ephemera, periodicals, maps, and books not commonly found in other public libraries, much of which is in the public domain. The eclectic collection presents many opportunities to enrich a vast range of Wikipedia articles and other Wikimedia projects, and also to explore and raise questions about the evolution of knowledge collection and distribution from the early days of print and "mass media" culture to today, and the impact of these material (or immaterial) forms on shifting perceptions of neutrality and reliability.
See below for more information and links, including a link to the Stacks Explorer where you can explore the virtual shelves of the Prelinger Library's holdings. We hope to see/work with you on the 25th!
Wiki-a-thon at Prelinger Library + Date: Sunday, August 25 + Time: 12:00 - 5:00 PM + Location: Prelinger Library + Address: 301 8th Street, San Francisco + Meetup page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/San_Francisco/Prelinger_Libra... + See also: http://www.prelingerlibrary.org/home/; Stacks Explorer: http://www.prelingerlibrary.org/stacks/
