Hi, y'all. All hands on deck! Bay Area WikiSalon is hosting a Wikipedia Day 16 in SF on January 15, and we could use some planning help in making it more interesting, fun, and useful. Please add your ideas to the event page - it's a wiki!
We would also like to run an edit-a-thon in the corner of the lounge during the party. Anybody up for coordinating that?
Please edit our event page directly so we can start advertising right away! We could also use a video to run during setup and for early arrivals. Got any ideas? Also, please start thinking about ways of promoting this. Thanks! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/SF/Wikipedia_Day_2017
I can run an edit-a-thon group! I have a list of articles at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Dreamyshade/In_the_news_articles (topics recently in the news that are marked with needs-improvement tags) that I'd be happy to work with people on editing, including helping newcomers get started. I can move that list to a sub-page of that meetup page if that sounds good.
How do you plan to gather the photos for the Wikimedia Commons exhibit? I'd encourage featuring some from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_San_Francisco_Designated_Landmarks and promoting the idea of filling in the blank photo spots on that list, along with the blank spots in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Historical_Landmarks_in_San_Francis... and the other lists linked from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Landmarks_and_Historic_Places_in_San_F...

I just updated the page with a bunch of lightning talks I can offer and a tools demonstration.
I'm also happy to teach my somewhat-famous Gentle Introduction to Wikidata For Absolute Beginners, but I do need at least 2 hours for that, and ideally 3. Let me know if there's interest.

Andrew Lih et al use this reel of videos at the beginning of an event: https://vimeo.com/191543645 . It's slightly out of date now, perhaps it would be useful to add the 2016 video at the beginning.

Hi, Britta. Can you please smooth your ideas into the Project page here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/SF/Wikipedia_Day_2017
Maybe start a couple of new headings and work it into the scheduling table too.

Hi Wayne,
Just added a lightning talk proposal "CC World University and School adding CC MIT OCW in 7 languages into CC Wikidata - and then into CC Wikipedia?" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/SF/Wikipedia_Day_2017#Lightni... .
I might also explore facilitating open space sessions for both a) "Queries" and b) "Citoid" re Wikipedia from Wikidata, building on these:
https://blog.wikimedia.de/2016/10/30/10-cool-queries-for-wikidata-that-will-...
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Citoid
partly to learn about these myself. But I'd look for someone to co-facilitate these, since I don't know them very well myself.
Suggestions for people for co-facilitating these?
Scott

Hi, Scott. Can you please summarize your lightning talk in simpler English, and add an estimated number of minutes you will require? Simply EDIT your current one.
Also, please go here and start a NEW SECTION to discuss the details of an Open-Space gig: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Meetup/SF/Wikipedia_Day_2017
Be sure to sign your post with 4 tildes.
If you want to ping me from the Talk page, use this template: {{u|Checkingfax}}
Note: You have to ping and sign in the same Save; you cannot go back and "fix" your ping if you do not do one or the other at the same time (ping and sign).
So, it looks like this: ==== Hi, {{u|Checkingfax}}. Blah. Blah. ~~~~ ====
Then, Preview it, then Save it.
PS: I am okay with being outed, but generally it is best to stick with usernames on Talk pages for privacy, safety, and doxing reasons. Just a heads up. Cheers! Wayne 925-899-4051
