Hi all,
Thanks Jon for choosing a date :)
So... don't forget about the meetup next Saturday (Aug 7): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/San_Francisco_15
We still need to set a location and time. Please make suggestions, along with adding agenda items, to the meetup page above.
So far on the agenda: * reports from Wikimania & WikiSym * planning for West Coast WikiCon: I have some updates on possible venues; we have a lot of other areas to go over as well. If you're working on a venue, can you please try to bring information about it on Saturday or update the wiki?
thanks! Phoebe

Yes definitely! Let's have a meetup soon. Agenda items could include:
- reporting on wikisym/wikimania
- sharing updates on projects -- for instance if anyone wants to give
an update on wikimedia california etc
- planning the west coast wikiconference! (the january event)
What do people think of a meetup either next weekend or the weekend after that? I think it'd be great to get in the habit of monthly meetings on the 1st or 2nd saturday of the month (for instance).
please discuss dates and locations here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/San_Francisco_15

Hi all:
Often times, after big events like Wikimania, we have a tendency to let things fall by the wayside.
I know, however, that it was our intention to plan regular meetups--notably as we've got a tentative conference scheduled for January (!!!!).
Anyone want to move forward?

Brion mentioned Delores Park. I think that's a great idea, although difficult for internet access (who needs their computers anyway!). There are any number of restaurants nearby.

I know it is scary, but unplugging once in a while _might_ be a good thing. I repeat, might. Now the sun on the other hand, we know that's a bad thing.
Park it is. Say 2pm? That way people can have lunch before they come in?

Y'all should come to Davis -- we have wifi in the park. No need to compromise!
2pm in Dolores Park is fine by me. On the agenda: ice cream.

I'll be there. If folks are interested, I can bring Pandemic. It's a great collaborative board game. I'm sure we all could use the practice. ;-)

Okay guys, so what happened?
I came out to Dolores Park yesterday. My girlfriend and I got there at 2:20, and then spent 30 minutes walking around without finding anyone I knew or seeing any sign I could recognize. Given that I knew most of the people who said they were coming, this is rather frustrating.
Assuming that there really was a meetup yesterday, then I'd like to say that we definitely need to do a better job of saying precisely where people are meeting rather than have it just be somewhere vague in a large park with lots of other people around. Similarly, I could have called someone to figure out what was going on, but no one put their contact info on the event page (which is all I had with me).

Robert, A group of us remained at 19th and Delores, under the bell, until sometime past 2:30, when Phoebe arrived. Nobody thought to bring any kind of sign, but Alex had a Wikipedia t-shirt. The Facebook page mentioned 19th and Delores (which I put in myself, knowing that Delores Park is a big park and often takes some time to find people). Brion couldn't make it and Jon was unavoidably detained in Berkeley; but the rest of us were all there.
We went to get ice cream at that time, because it seemed unlikely that anyone else was coming; and we remained on the lookout for you, since you were the only one left unaccounted-for. We then returned to the park around 3ish, where Eugene met us and we sat there until well past 4:00.
I'm sorry you couldn't find us, and that nobody provided a common phone number. Maybe we should make a point to exchange numbers. A number of us were checking email regularly to see if anyone was still missing, but maybe someone needs to be in charge of signs and signals. I think it's Jon, actually, but if he doesn't show up then we're FUBAR.
Cary
Oh, I see how it is! I forget about ONE meetup and suddenly it's all my fault

What Facebook page? Since when is there a Facebook page?
Neither this email thread nor the page on Wikipedia [1] mention the corner of 19th and Dolores, and that's the only discussion of meetups I was aware of.

Hey Robert, Sorry we missed you! It was a pretty productive meetup despite mishaps; we talked about conference planning (notes to follow). I wonder if you were on the other side of the park? I showed up around 2:40... I think the lesson for next time is to pick an exact location and put it on the wiki page, especially when the location is vague like the park. I'm happy to share my cell # off-list.

My point was, which I was remiss to say, was that I was only taking responsibility for the Facebook event page, and was expecting others to update the wiki-page; which was a mistake on my part.
Cary
So the end all, be all, is that I screwed up in planning. This is the first time we ever scheduled a meet that wasn't something small. No one (except Cary) thought to define a specific point, and I didn't see the Facebook notice myself until after the fact.
Now we know that in the future, any meetups in locations bigger than a restaurant - should have a very specific location.
How about we get some GPS coordinates going too? We could have a Geocache'd [1] wikimeet, or maybe a radio foxhunt [2]. If you can find the meetup, you can participate!!!
