I have tried internet.org and given feedback + screenshots but the mailing list has put it up for moderation because of the photo attachments I think. Can a moderator check and release it?

Nope. I've not tried it myself. But, the way the internet.org renders Wikipedia pages, I doubt editing will be that easier as some parts of the page are stripped off. Maybe happens to only me.
