Myself and Oral recently came across Thomas Mensah, a Kumasi-born-Ghanaian who, Oral and I choose to describe as "Africa's Albert Einstein", if not "Archimedes and Albert Combined!".
I'll invite you read his article (and help improve) on Wikipedia, however before you do, I'll say he's "all over the place" in the world. I can't describe him better. Ghanani ba oooh!
