hi asaf,
that's a nice offer! when following the gasmilla discussion: http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikimedia-gh/2013-September/000700.html
i thought if it might be helpful if a couple of experienced wikipedia editors could join the ghana mailing list to give advice whenever it is necessary, so doing kind of "training on the job". in case of gasmilla:
* hint to the correct notability criteria, here for musicians * hint how to handle it in a new country * hint where to get help normally in such cases
what i know in the english wikipedia is mentorship: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Mentorship
and from there on, that new users can apply here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user
or new page patrol to be prepared to become wikipedia administrator: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:New_page_patrol
what you think about it? if you find it good, how to proceed to get there?

Thanks, Sandister, for this update, and all your efforts, and best wishes for this exciting new chapter in your personal path! :)
To your question (I note no others responded, on-list at least...), I'll offer my opinion: I would warmly recommend course #1, i.e. focus on developing this group of eight's own wikiskills and editing experience. It is the only way to legitimately and responsibly represent Wikimedia in outreach efforts, partnerships, and to the media.
I would personally be happy to help this group in any way, including by arranging for training or resources. Do you think you could get together (virtually or physically) and compare notes and on-wiki experience to determine what kinds of wiki skills or editing tasks you would like to tackle?
Cheers,
Asaf

I will be going to Cardiff University on 17/18 Sept. I quite excited to hear that an EduWiki Conference will be there as well. As usual, I will let you know what happened there if I am able to attend.
Now that the grant report is up we can focus on other things but I want to say congrats to us all. Pl. Wikimedia Ghana had just two active editors = Rex & Me. Now after the outreach where we met 100s we've supported ourselves to 8 active editors now.
Jaward, Enock, Claude, Nii, Rex, Me, Felix, Barima. Aren't we great? And majority of us are BarCampers so we need to buy Ato some alewa. We all know Wikipedia is hard work. So I am happy for the 8 of us.
I am also glad to say that some people are editing in the background but haven't been part of us. Some people have also shown interest but don't know where to start.
So I want to ask now, and we should vote on this. What do we do next?
- Should the 8 of us focus on developing ourselves and building our
editing skills and editing count? At least for some time before we go on outreach again?
OR
- Should we go on outreach again right away?
OR
- Suggest another plan bec
I am taking a break from the mailing list till the 9th of September to focus on my school preps. But please the weekly edit declaration still stands. I don't want to chase anyone. Rex and I are welcoming all ideas as to what we should embark on next. Please put your ideas in a proposal form.
