Here another idea coming from Kenya, targetted to prepare or mark contents which then should be made available offline and for education.

Hello!
From my action points here [1] on our May meet-up regarding the compilation
of the Kenyan curriculum, I just finished working on the last subject which is Agriculture.
Approximately there are about 600 suggested additions of topics at [2].
Next steps?

Hello!
I will send the school the latest release of Kiwix (which is version 0.9 RC1). BTW,am informed that it will be released today. It has some new nice feats that I bet they will find useful some plus bug fixes.
To mention just but a few;
- Has a new theme that a user can switch to called ''Evolution''
- Html5 Video support
- Indexing improvement......so much more
To view the change log go to [1] and you are also welcome to test the new version that can be downloaded here [2]

indeed its encouraging to note that we having positive feedback from the WFS ,now i have encountered three cases in Western emanating from Kakamega pilot ,managed to reinstall the same having formatted their PCs , For the Mombasa one because of the logistical matrix involved i explored possibility of sending the DVD via dropbox n other large file sending methods but she could not understand how to go about that . My Question: Now that we are in the process of updating our Kiwix is it still prudent to continue re installing that one ?

Hello Nice people,
It is really reassuring when you receive that phone call from someone with thirst for free knowledge which is the main mission of Wikimedia.
One teacher from a school that benefited from the Wikipedia for Schools pilot that was accomplished in Mombasa, Kenya, gave a call to Bruce (Member of WMKE) and she requested for a copy of the DVD plus the manual of how to make the offline package functional. She had misplaced the copy we left after the pilot and she would like a new copy to install in new computers that the school acquired recently.
It is very satisfying to learn that someone found the package useful. I will be sending her a copy during the week plus a manual via a courier service since she availed the school’s mailing address.
At this point, I think it is wise for her school to partake in the story telling tour that will be executed by Victor Grigas who will be visiting Kenya after Wikimania.
Regards,
Stephen.
PS: Dennis, How far have you reached with the Syllabus you were working on?

Hello nice people!
The Geography, History and CRE addition of non existent topics to the current SOS version of off-line Wikipedia is done! As at [1] below.
Dennis is still working on the business studies syllabus and as he promised he will be done by the end of this Month. I would suggest we use the talk page [2] for further communications with regards to the off-line project.
Thank you everyone who has been working on this!

Thanks for this update, Stephen.
I'd like to encourage you guys to make progress on this work, so we can finally prepare a new ZIM file (we'll figure out the size problem if we have too. Probably by removing a few pictures.) and start working on distribution.
Are you and Deonte the only ones working on this right now?
Cheers,
Asaf

Hello,
From my mathematical point of view, I believe that this new set will definitely generate more other articles into our new custom package. My argument being, every new article we request to be added will come with its new blue links which means more articles than what we already have in our not yet completed compilation of topics. This blue links mean more articles!
As of now there are 500+ requested additions on [1] and if I do some maths by assuming that each new requested article has a minimum of 10 blue links then we are talking about 5000+ articles being added onto the SOS version of off-line WIkipedia. *Note* that the list is still a Work-In-Progress with more subjects to be added!
The SOS version of the offline Wikipedia is 5500 articles which means that our new additions would not fit as an addition to the SOS version and still be <4gb. I met Deonte today and he requested for some pages of the Agriculture syllabus which he is working on right now. I still have the Business Education syllabus and the C.R.E. syllabus which I secured last week.
