Dear Wiki Loves Africa team!
We are very proud to tell you that Wiki Loves Africa has been funded! Your
country has been selected as being one of the focus countries for the
competition. There is a lot to do before now and when we launch on the 1st
of October ...
There are a few things that need to be done before we can get onto the real
fun!
1. Please look at this list of guidelines on Meta to see what kinds of
things you could consider as part of the Competition. Please chat with your
team about it, and let me know if you have any questions:
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Loves_Africa#Guidelines_for_Focus_Coun…>*
2. We are currently creating the website. It is currently in English,
but will soon be in French and Arabic (Abir, Habib and Mohamed we will need
your help ;-)). www.wikilovesafrica.org (please understand it is in beta
- we are still sorting out the instagram feed and other issues, but we
welcome your feedback)
3. We have a section for each country on the blog. On this page we would
like you to record events that will take place in your country, who you are
working with (food organisations) and other things that are related to the
competition in your country as they happen. If you can send me the name and
email address of the person will be updating the country blog.
4. Let me know if the people reflected on this page are the ones that
you are working with, and that the contact email is correct:
5. Please also look at the Commons project pages and add your
involvement, what your group is doing and when, and that the person who is
currently down as the media contact is the correct person:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Africa
Thanks so much - Florence and I are really excited to be working with you!
Please email Florence or I if you have any questions - and Rexford if you
have any technical problems!
Warmest regards
Isla

Good Afternoon,
I wish to inform you that we will be partnering with the open source
community in Ghana on the upcoming "Software Freedom day" scheduled for the
20th of September, 2014.
We will be given a slot to present during the key note session and have a
training session after. New members may seize the opportunity to actually
gain some hands on time or even make some real edits as we will be
organizing a short edit-a-thon session within the time allocated.
I need two volunteers from the community to be at our booth/table during
the event. Please reply to this mail if you wish to volunteer.
Kindly find attached program for the day.
Kind regards,
--

Forwarding from Siko Bouterse:
Greetings! The Wikimedia Foundation Individual Engagement Grants program is
accepting proposals for funding new experiments from September 1st to 30th.
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG>
Your idea can improve Wikimedia projects by building a new tool or gadget,
organizing a better process on your wiki, conducting research on an
important issue, or providing other support for community-building. Whether
you need $200 or $30,000 USD, Individual Engagement Grants can cover your
own project development time in addition to funding for a team to help you.
The program has a flexible schedule and reporting structure, and
Grantmaking staff are there to support you through all stages of the
process.
Do you have have a good idea, but you are worried that it isn't developed
enough for a grant? Put it into the IdeaLab, where volunteers and staff
can give you advice and guidance on how to bring it to life. <
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IdeaLab> Also, IEG will be hosting
three Hangout Sessions for real-time discussions to help you make your
proposal better - the first will happen on September 16th. <
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IdeaLab/Events#Upcoming_events>
For inspiration, you can read more about past projects <
https://blog.wikimedia.org/tag/individual-engagement-grants/> that received
funding or review open proposals <
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG#ieg-reviewing>. We are excited
to see some of the new ways your grant ideas can support our community and
make an impact on the future of Wikimedia projects.
Submit your proposal in September! <
