Hi, it was planned that new members will help gather food photos for Ghanaian cuisine on Cookbook. I have been waiting for our social media persoon to start the campaign but he is not doing so. So I am throwing it to you. The time is now. I am looking for one person who will be willing to contact one Kwabena Akuamoah-Boateng who has a lot of food pictures to donate.
1. You will contact him via Facebook and let him point you to the album where you can find the photos. 1a. Kwabena is very busy so help him create an account or create one for him on Wikimedia Commons and make him aware he has one.2. You will help him decide on the creative commons license to use by directing him to the cc page. I have booklets from HK which you can send to him3. You can request for one of the community's tablets and internet mi-fis and upload all the pictures with him after he has decided which ones he will donate.
NB. You will be using the Wikimedia Commons app.
Regards,
Sandister Tei

Hi there,
I sent a message to some individual inactive "members" concerning removal from mailing list. We are no longer supporting recruits who have still not been able to donate a single edit especially to Wikipedia.
We have been operating with a grant and we have to account for all the time and effort and funds we have spent coming to your schools, BarCamps etc in September. The self motivated ones who are truly interested have proven themselves. We have to wrap up for the outreach year and write our report to WMF. We need to move on to other things that will ensure our edit numbers grow.
You might not find this cool to hear but some members who joined a few months ago have over 100 edits now. They even learnt faster than I did when I joined. They came in with you so there is no excuse. As a grantee who needs to account for work done, I don't have time for anyone who will make me seem incompetent with all due respect. I will simply kick you out.
Let me be honest with you. I have been on Twitter and Facebook for years. These companies haven't sent me a travel scholarship anywhere to any of their tech events. I have known Wikimedia for just 1 year. Wikimedia flew me to Hong Kong for exposure and learning. Wikimedia is the only social media organisation that takes users that seriously.
Some of you are on Fb and Twitter with blogs and all. You are all over the place and you have time for everything else because you know where your interest lies. I told Rexford months ago that I wanted to be a Wikimedian. He didn't force me here. I came by myself. This is a game of interests.
In Hong Kong I met very distinguished people -- scientists, people in aviation, Phd holders, mothers and fathers who regardless of whatever, still extend towards their Wikimedian duties. So if your problem is time, I encourage you to find time. An edit could be a one minute thing.
I understand editing in itself is not a paid job. Maybe that is what is discouraging you. But no one pays you to tweet your knowledge. Wikis are social media too and WMF doesn't pay people to contribute their knowledge. We can only pay you for the help in outreach as prescribed by our grant or on special projects that has received grants. With that, PWMGH can't force you and I understand. So if incentives are low for you, well too bad for us.
Those that declared your edits, good job done. If you still want to remain with us, and haven't, do declare your edits please.
Regards,
Sandister Tei

Guys I am back,
I will continue to post on our blog. I am yet to talk about the conference itself there though. But I will catch up. Make it a point to visit our blog everyday to look for updates (look also in the sidebars not just the posts). I will not post to mailing list as it is not meant for that.
I brought some souvenirs that baggage allowance and time to collect them allowed me. So imma work a way to get some for anyone attending an event on our amazing behalf + editors.
Lastly I have some messages to pass on:
1. All members who have edited Wikipedia/Commons 2 times or more this month let me know, we have an all important online/physical meeting. Ato please know you are needed in this meeting. Your unprecedented efforts to put us in all BarCamps is something we want to look at and extend.
Words can't express Hong Kong 2013. Wikimania London (as shown by their presentation) is going to be something else. By then, I would want us to be a freshly minted chapter which would have ensured that as many Ghanaians are aware of WMF and the wikis.
Questions and Comments Welcome!
Regards,
Sandister Tei

So today, I got see our Jimmy Wales and of course Sue Gardner. I also met Asaf Bartov, the AffCom team, some members of other chapters and finally I am matching faces to usernames :D
I am gathering souvenirs for editing members and some useful tools and kits for outreaches blah blah
All I can say is, you haven't made a wrong move in deciding to dedicate your time to WMF wikis. It is a beautiful community with people with lots of sense of humour I should say.
I will be writing a second blog post so stay tuned on our blog. I have a lot to share there.
Collaborative knowledge creation and sharing, free and open internet ... that is our reason for being. And Jimbo made a note about "Gathering smart people to do amazing things..." That made an impression on me because this is all we have been trying to do. That's the essence of WMF, and PWMGH.
I will stay in touch. Don't forget to edit this week/weekend. Wikimedia Ghana depends on this.
Regards,
Sandister Tei

Fellow Wikimedians,
Next week is Wikimania HK 2013. As you know I am the only one that applied this year for a scholarship. I got it and I was issued a visa at the 11th hour because of some lateness and misinformation.
HK has no embassy in Ghana so you transact through the Chinese. The Chinese as you all know were dealing with repatriation, embassy relocation, closure for weeks etc it has been hectic and it took mighty lot of effort and emails from Rex, WMF and WM HK to get my visa early enough to go next week. Even a personal phone call from WMF to immigration had to come in.
Long story short Wikimania London 2013 is coming. I thought a year was far off and it almost cost me my attendance. Don't let it happen to you. If you know you are interested, get your membership and contribution in good standing. Start thinking of the scholarship application but most importantly, familiarise yourself with what it takes to get a visit visa to the UK. Luckily they have an embassy here. But regardless, issues like bank statement is something you need to sort out on your own and WMF can't cover that in your scholarship. UK immigration determines such things.
I am glad to go discuss Africa and also paid editing among other things. If possible, I will get souvenirs for all of you like Oral did at Washington DC. Most importantly, I will pay attention to how already established chapters' representatives conduct themselves and any lessons they have to offer so I can share. Our group is still working for chaptership, such sharing experience is very critical.
When I arrive at the conference in good time to catch the issues applicable to us, I will share accordingly.
Do you have Wikimania London on your mind? Start preparing your case why you should be allowed to go, and start thinking about UK immigration requirements Because you can a get the scholarship and not get a visa. Without right positioning, you might not even get the award at all.
Regards,
Sandister Tei
