Hi again,
as a follow-up to my previous message requesting translations, I'd
like to ask you for some ideas for other slogans we might run on
CentralNotice during the competition.
The idea I had for now was to start with last year's slogan, and
introduce another one as soon as we break our previous record of
168,000 files uploaded in all participating countries (probably
somewhere around September 13-15). This doesn't have to be related to
us breaking the record, and is merely intended as a "fresh opening" to
boost the number of contributors/interested people (just like
different fundraising campaigns boost the view/click ratio).
So if you have some ideas for a good CentralNotice slogan which will
be translated into over 30 languages and visible to millions of people
(and I guess we can prepare a nice thank-you note as well) -- please
speak now! :-))
Thanks

Good morning!
I'm happy to provide you with an additional app for iPhone and Android
mobile devices, developed by 123POI, a part of the MairDumont media
group, a publishing house in Germany with a focus on travelling. You
might know the Marco Polo travelling guides, and it also publishes the
Lonely Planet guides for the German-speaking market.
I created a page with (hopefully) all relevant information at Commons:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2012/Tools/…
There are 2 main points that make this app different from our WMF WLM
app that might be interesting for you and your participants:
* iPhone availability
* geocoding of addresses - this app will find and show also monuments
without coordinates in Wikipedia on a map
The other difference is, that a user does not need to register at
Commons but in the app, and there will be a batch transfer of the images
to Commons (similar to some Flickr batch uploads for WLM beforem see the
test uploads here:
http://commons.wikimedia.beta.wmflabs.org/w/index.php?title=Special:ListFil…).
This might make it easier for new users to participate (no break in the
user flow), however these users won't be visible as new "Commons users".
The app will be improved by your feedback and I kindly ask you spread
the word and to test it as much as possible in the next days! Please put
all of your feedback to the page
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2012/Tools/…
, the developers will track this!
One last demand: If you find the app useful for your community and
participants, please show your appreciation by mentioning the app and
the sponsor on your local websites. I will provide you with some more
information about the sponsor soon.
Thank you!
Regards,
Elke

Hi all,
A little proposal (probably for the next year, no need to rush ;-) )
I'm beta testing the WLM app on my smartphone and I noticed that the
app contains a link to http:/www.wikilovesmonuments.org, visiting that
site from the phone I noticed it's quite uncomfortable to browse since
the width of the size is fixed. This issue applies to all WLM national
sites which are using the WLM theme.
For the next year, you may want to do one of the following:
* change the theme using a responsive layout[*][**] that adapts itself
to the device screen dimensions
* redirect users from mobile device to the "mobile version" of the
site, probably something like http:/m.wikilovesmonuments.org
(deprecated)
(I know the theme code is pubblicly available, but I don't have any
time to do it myself now [furthermore, I'm not that CSS master ...])

Hi,
when I try to browse by campaign for Serbia, all I get is a lot of question
marks instead of region names. Are you still working on it?
Or, it might be a problem if the lists have been imported in cyrillic
instead of latin.
Cheers,
Tamara
I was wondering if somebody had (or was willing to prepare) a list of
monuments around the world that could have been photographed
during WLM 2011 timeline but no longer exist.
I think it would make for a great piece of news for release during the
contest, in the lines of [[en:Wikipedia:There is a deadline]] essay, to
motivate participation.
Hello,
who ever will use instagramm for Wiki Loves Monuments and invite users via
that channel might consider it helpful to read the below article: Here's a

Hi there,
I thank Platonides' for starting a thread about creating a list of
monuments that were destroyed in the past two months; credit goes also
to Emijrp, who's [[Wikipedia:There is a deadline]] directly inspired
this idea.
We've been thinking about creating another banner for the
CentralNotice campaign, just like with WMF's fundraising, to involve
more people in the competition. Platonides' thread discussed creating
the list of endangered objects -- how about merging the two ideas into
one?
We'll create a short essay (five paragraphs at maximum, probably even
shorter) discussing the idea of [[Wikipedia:There is a deadline]] with
relation to cultural heritage objects, and have it translated into all
the languages of the participating countries. At the bottom of the
essay, we'll add a short list of cultural heritage objects that got
destroyed in the past twelve months (and only those), with respective
links to Wikipedia articles (or not - depending on the language). And
we'll link the essay on CentralNotice, using a catchy phrase that
mentions the danger that cultural heritage objects are in, and clearly
calls the viewers for an action (take picture & upload it onto
Commons).
How does this sound like?
Tomasz
Dear all, we're very happy for get the sponsoring of Wiki Loves Monuments
by Fundación Carlos Slim.
Due to the times, this initial support will be only of prizes and
diffusion, but we will talk for more projects between the foundation and
Wikimedia Mexico, and surely more support for WLM in 2013.
Regards.
