Hello!
I'm starting a backlog cleanup because why not :)
I'll be going through https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Open_requests_for_new_languages , project by project, letter by letter, up to ten requests per email, one email per day. Should be manageable, right?
If there's no ISO code, I'll probably immediately decide it's ineligible.
I'll start with Wikipedia and the letter A.
== Acholi == Request: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Acholi Code: ach My take: eligible. Definitely living. *Probably* distinct. The English Wikipedia article calls it a "dialect", but my impression is that although it's probably a part of a dialect continuum in speech, it's a distinct standardized languages in writing.
== Achomi == Request: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Achomi Code: lrl My take: The code seems eligible, but there's practically no content in the Incubator, and there are some arguments about the name of the language. Both in the request page and the English Wikipedia article talk page. Is it Achomi, Lari, Larestani? I'm not sure what to do. I'm inclined to write in the request page that the Language committee will hold its decision about eligibility until there's well-referenced consensus about naming. Any other opinions?
== Adilabad Gondi == Request: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Adilaba... Code: wsg My take: Eligible, although the content in the Incubator appears to be written in three scripts. Mostly Telugu, but also some Devanagari and a bit of Masaram Gondi. The localization work is done in the Telugu script.
== Akkadian == Request: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Akkadia... Code: akk My take: Ineligible because it's extinct.
== Akpa == Request: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Akpa Code: akf My take: Eligible. Cannot think of any issues.
== Ancient Greek 4 == Request: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Ancient... Code: grc My take: Ineligible because it's extinct.
== Angkola == Request: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Angkola Code: akb My take: Eligible, although there's very little content in the Incubator.
== Angolar Creole == Request: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Angolar... Code: aoa My take: Eligible, but there's no content in the Incubator. See my other email about it.
== Arbëresh == Request: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Arb%C3%... Code: aae My take: Eligible.
Any other opinions?
