Hallo!
I am going through https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Open_requests_for_new_languages , project by project, letter by letter, up to ten requests per email, one email per day.
I am now working on Wikipedia, and today I'm handling the letters U and V, one request in each.
== Upper Saxon German == Request: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Upper_S... Code: sxu My take: I don't know. Judging by the content of the English Wikipedia article and by most of the comments on the request page, it shouldn't be eligible, because today it's just a regional spoken variety that has few differences from standard German. But there are also comments on the request page that say that many books are published in it, and that it has a distinct writing standard. So I'm not sure what to say. MF-W, perhaps you have an opinion?
My take is: not eligible. It is indeed only a regional spoken variety of standard German. The content on Incubator is completely mutually intelligible with standard German, it's merely written "phonetically" in the regional pronunciation (the same is true for the books that were mentioned, like "Asterix"). One could probably create a script converter to produce it.
== Vai == Request: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Vai_2 Code: vai My take: Eligible. The request was created by someone who probably doesn't know the language, which is not so great. But on the good and practical site, there's quite a lot of content in the Incubator, and it looks legitimate, so it's OK to make it eligible.
I agree, it is eligible. I wonder what is up with edits like https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/CharlesLRiley but that doesn't concern the eligibility.
