Hi,
Every now and then there are proposals to add support for writing Minnan in
Chinese characters.
Currently, there is a Wikipedia in Minnan in Latin characters:
https://zh-min-nan.wikipedia.org . (Its domain should probably be renamed
to nan.wikipedia.org, but that is blocked for unfortunate technical reasons
and this is not what this email is about.)
However, there are proposals to allow that language in Chinese characters,
at least as a localization, for example:

I am not opposed to adding nan-hani or nan-hant or something like that for
MediaWiki localization (whether to make a whole wiki in that language is a
separate question, not for discussion in this thread). However, I know
almost nothing about these languages. Can anyone think of a reason not to
do it?
And if it's done, what should the code be? nan-hani, nan-hant, or something
else?

I repeat here an official request for validation of the Wp.Kotava
project ( https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/avk ).
This project is the most advanced of all those currently present in the
Incubator, with more than 8200 articles created and a great number of
quality articles, more than 10 active contributors every month for the
last 18 months, and the translation of a majority of localization
messages (see statistics here:
https://tools.wmflabs.org/meta/catanalysis/index.php?cat=0&title=Wp/avk&wik…
).
The discussion launched in September 2019 was abruptly interrupted, when
3 members of Langcom had voted in favour and none opposed. For the past
4 months, all my requests for information and reminders, and those of
others, have been unsuccessful (see e.g. here:

), and an absolute silence has fallen on an active, competent and
dedicated community that has the legitimate feeling of being despised.

Hi,
This is a bit of a special case, and I want to check what does the
committee think.
There is this proposal to move content in the Balinese language from an
external MediaWiki site into a Wikimedia site:

On the surface of it, I think that it's a very good proposal. It will
probably require a bit of coding to do it properly and address the special
needs of this language, and that's why the people behind it are asking for
a grant.
*Assuming* it will go through, there's another question: Should it be
imported into the Multilingual Wikisource or its own domain?
There is no formal request for a Balinese Wikisource at the moment. I
believe, however, that this content should be imported to its own domain
and not to the Multilingual Wikisource. In Multilingual Wikisource it will
be mixed up with content in other languages, and the special technical
needs of Balinese will be harder to address with this mixup.
So, my proposal is that given that the content is already created, the
Language committee should treat it as a special case: skip the Multilingual
Wikisource stage and fast-track the approval of an independent domain for
Balinese.

Two people related to the proposal replied. The short summary of that
discussion is that they don't have particular reasons, but just
non-specific concerns about "maintenance".
Does the Language committee have a different opinion?
