Hello Programs & Events Dashboard users community!
The Programs & Events Dashboard has proven itself to be a key tool for many
community organizers, including Program Leaders that work in the fields of
education, GLAM, edit-a-thons, and in Affiliates.
As this tool matures, it is becoming necessary to make sure that it has the
community support it needs. One of the aspects of this is to formalize a
group of Dashboard Admins that can help the community by providing it with
basic support when needed.
We are therefore calling for volunteers that want to participate in this
field. Their expected responsibilities will cover the following:
-
Providing support to users and Affiliates
-
Monitoring & reporting on the use of the Dashboard
Dashboard Admins, like many other roles in the the Wikimedia community will
be required to sign a Non-disclosure Agreement (NDA) with the Wikimedia
Foundation, in order to ensure that data privacy policies are respected by
all.
Ideally, we want to cover all “major” languages, as well as all the
languages that actively use the P&E Dashboard.
All Admins will be required to take a (short) online training [1] on how to
be Admins, besides demonstrating knowledge on how to use the Dashboard.
The selection process will be as follows:
1.
Sign up to indicate your interest
2.
Take the online training [1]
3.
A selection committee composed of Vahid Masrour and Sage Ross will
select the first cohort of Admins.
If you think you can assist the movement by performing this function,
please sign-up here:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Programs_%26_Events_Dashboard/Admins
Best Regards,
Vahid.

Hello All,
A middle school has approached us to run a Wikipedia program for them. We
are considering training the students on how to effectively use Wikipedia
as well as hinting them on the ability to correct basic things such as
typos and grammar. We also intend to teach them how to play the Wikidata
game.
Is our approach good? or what alternative activities we can have with the
school.
Thanks in advance for your comments or suggestions.
Regards,

Hello colleagues,
I'm not familiar enough with Wikisource to evaluate this guide, but I'm
forwarding it in case others are interested. Please direct questions and

Dear All,
We all know that Wikisource is one of the trending Wikimedia projects. We
are getting many new editors and new books to Indic language Wikisource's.
At the same time, we even noticed that there are many problems faced by the
new editors and a few of the existing editors. To help all of the editors
we have created a Handbook titled as *Wikisource Handbook for Indic
communities
<
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikisource_Handbook_for_Indian_Comm…
>.
*Which is now available[1] to everyone to make the best use of it. I
request everyone to share this with all those who are in need of support in
editing Wikisource.
Authors of the book: Bodhisattwa Mandal and Ananth Subray P V.

A few weeks back we asked event organizers for ideas about the event metrics they need [1]. We got a lot of great ideas that the CommTech team and I studied carefully. The result, which I’ve just posted on wiki, is a proposal for an ambitious yet achievable set of metrics tools and new reports. The ideas are presented in two parts: the first post describes new metrics features at a high level [2]; the second lists the data types and specific reports we're proposing in detail.
i invite event organizers of all types to review these ideas and please provide your feedback. Did we hit the right balance? What is missing? Please help us help you. We’re listening!

Hi Felix - not much info here about how long you have in terms of teaching time but In terms of content I’d suggest you provide an intro to how editing works, and also (very briefly) the other language Wikipedia’s. These are things that the students are unlikely to know about so add real value. I would also focus time on open licensing - what it is & why it matters to the site. Again, a topic that they are unlikely to have much knowledge of that's both practically and conceptual useful in terms of their digital literacy.
It sounds like a great project and an amazing opportunity!
The other thing that I would make sure of is to pre test with teachers - they don’t need to be from the same school but they do need to understand the age group. Pitch and appropriate level content is the thing people most often get wrong working with children & young people - you need expertise here from people who are teaching your age group day in day out. Ideally, have someone trial while you observe or trial yourself and have staff feedback. You won’t get delivery and content right first time - good teachers are very skilled at improvisation, adaptation on the fly and iterating both for specific groups of learners to improve learning outcomes - something they share with Wikimedians who teach & train adults.
An ideal would be for you to develop your content as a stand alone resource (and openly licence it) - you can publish this online along with your teaching notes and that way teachers and communities around the world get to benefit from and build on your work.
Hope this helps a little and the best of luck!
Josie

Dear Wikimedia & Education Community,
The Education Team at the Wikimedia Foundation is happy to launch a new
“Office Hours” initiative! The Education Team will be holding at least 2
office hours per month. The goal is to have dedicated "real time"
conversations about your questions, and first hand accounts of your
activities. Having set times for this type of interaction will make sure
that everyone has a fair chance to receive real time support. We will make
sure to schedule for different time zones so that everyone has a chance to
participate.
Please bring topics you want to discuss, ask, or share about! It will be an
opportunity to have a conversation about them with the Education Team, and
also with those that participate in the meeting.
We will be using Google Meet to host the meeting, so please make sure you
have it installed before the meeting starts. You can download it from:
https://meet.google.com/
For the month of August, the meetings are set as follows:
-
August 30, 16:00 UTC (probably most practical for participants from the
Americas, Europe and Africa)
-
Meet Link: https://meet.google.com/dsu-dhaz-ezm
-
August 31, 13:00 UTC (probably most practical for participants in Asia
and Oceania)
-
Meet link: https://meet.google.com/ioq-msev-eny
If you have any questions, please address them to education(a)wikimedia.org
or reply to this message. We look forward to speaking with you at office
hours!
