Writing or Editing a Wikipedia Article for Law School Credit

Wikipedia assignment at Ulster University

Good evening, Professor Christie. My name is Lixxx235, and I'm a Wikipedia editor and an Online Ambassador with the Wikipedia Education Program. ( userpage <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Lixxx235>) It's come to my attention (through a student's request for help via Wikipedia's live chat) that you have given your students assignments relating to editing Wikipedia. While the Wikipedia Education Program fully supports such assignments, and endorses a number of courses at various universities around the world, according to one of your students, an assignment you've given seems to have students confused and is causing submissions in violation of some Wikipedia policies and wasting volunteer and student time. For example, this <https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Fuel_controlled_fires_…> is an entry one of your students tried to get help on from our live help chat. This submission does not meet Wikipedia guidelines such as notability policies, policies requiring verifiability of material, and policies requiring a neutral point of view (NPOV) to be kept. In addition, it was not in Wikipedia's standard format. We'd love to get in touch with you. Research booklet about information literacy, democracy, and Wikimedia

Dear all, At the recent EduWiki conference in Serbia I presented a research piece on the power of information literacy (and how our wiki programmes support it) from the perspective of Wikimedia UK. I thought to share the resource here, perhaps it will be a useful tool in your advocacy for the impact of our education work, as a narrative to present the value of wiki workshop, or serve as inspiration to do a similar project. We're excited to announce a new regular meeting of the Wikimedia & education community: the EduWiki Knowledge Showcase! ==About the EduWiki Knowledge Showcase== The EduWiki Knowledge Showcase is a collaboration of the Wikipedia & Education User Group and the WMF Education team. It replaces various overlapping meetings of community members we used to have, and offers an opportunity to highlight the work being done in education all over the world. Each month, we'll highlight either a region or a program type, with multiple speakers on the same theme. The time of the meeting will move around to accommodate different time zones. Our speakers each contributed a bit about their work: * Susanna Mkrtchyan, Wikimedia Armenia & board member, Wikipedia & Education User Group: Wikimedia Armenia has been organizing WikiCamps since 2014. In the same year, WikiCamp was recognized as the coolest project of the Wiki movement. WikiCamps and WikiClubs are registered as trademarks of Wikimedia Armenia. WikiCamp is one of the components of the Educational ecosystem through Wikipedia, which was developed by me and is run by Wikimedia Armenia. * Natasha Nedanoska, Macedonian language teacher in a primary school, member of GLAM Macedonia, education educator and coordinator of Wiki Club Ohrid: I have been participating in Wikicamps since 2018 and so far I have been to 4 (Berovo, Dojran, Seles, Mavrovo), and on the eve is the fifth Wikicamp on Kozuv Planina, Mihajlovo. Wiki Camps are three days long, starting with dinner and ending with lunch. There is always a well-prepared program that includes: editing of articles, lectures on topics related to Wikipedia, lectures by experts depending on the topic of the camp, familiarization with the environment and visiting sights, morning exercises, quizzes and entertainment. Participants usually leave richer for certain Wikipedia topics and with more experience. * Nebojša Ratković, Education Program Manager at Wikimedia Serbia: We organize Edu Wiki Camps since 2016. Our primary goal is to bring together students who are interested in Wiki topics through this activity in order to motivate them to become Wiki ambassadors. At the camp, we always have activities related to Wiki projects, but also soft skills workshops that help the participants to empower themselves. * Vjollca: Family and friends call me Vjola. My Wiki username is Vyolltsa. I have been working as a Project Manager with Wikimedians of Albanian Language User Group for 3 years now. When I started out in this position, I developed an interest in involving more people in the Wiki world, and together with some high school teachers, we set up the Wikiclubs. It has been an amazing journey, and I look forward to continuing to promote open knowledge in education in Albania. In the meantime, I have been dedicated to increasing the number of events/programs within Wiki Education by aligning them with the school projects and objectives. I am no more a writer. My attempts to ask ends here. I accept all acts of mine as committed by me that violated rules or did any breech of trust. I accept. tried loging in Wiki books. If I get only one website of Wikipedia then I will use for students. I need nothing else from Wikipedia. 🙏🏼 I want to read and make watch list for convenient using only after being blocked. I am unable to tell anyone reality of being blocked in Wikipedia as revealing it will make them negative for Wikipedia. I know it's value and wanted others know the same and use as I did.
